Journey is only 1 of 7 from 3 but she did hit one on Sunday. I found an article on 247 sports from a couple of years ago and said she would bring shooting at a 34-36 percent to Iowa. (don't know if she averaged that % in HS or not) She is shooting 54.1% overall this year with 5 RBs in 14 minutes this year which is very good for a freshman IMO. If she can improve her 3s great. She already has a nice short range jumper.

edit: the article said 34-36% from three. I couldn't find her actual stats from HS
In 4 years in high school she shot, 26, 30, 29, 36% from 3.

I think Callie stays for sure. She is making good NIL money, we are likely losing Emely and Kylie who take some of Callies potential minutes and we REALLY need guards. Callie will play a fair amount next year if she stays.

I hope teagan doesn't leave. I still think there's hope for her to turn it around. She's had a ton if bad luck. I feel if she just hits a couple shots she's going to take off

I agree with this. I question if Teagan might leave or stay for a couple of reasons. Could she go to a P5 team where NIL would be as good or better? If not, then I would think NIL might be a reason for her to stay if the NIL might be less at a smaller conference/team and maybe the same for Levin and Rodriguez. Just wondering.

After the loss of Taylor M we can see how thin we are at the guard position. It will certainly be a focus in the portal. It seems to be a focus in the 27 recruiting as well with the commitment of Jada S and visits by Mya W and Brinley A.

Are they PGs or 2s and where are they from, size, visited Iowa, etc?

Those players are guards/CG. Multiple visits now. We need to bump the '27 recruiting thread back to the 1st page.

For me, its just any way we can bring in probably about 3 portal transfers that can upgrade our speed, athleticism, and strength. They don't have to be star game changer types, just 3 upgrades
Another 6'3or 4" center/4 player because hard to match the size ucla has without two of them on the floor together for 30 minutes

The lack of wing talent was very evident tonight against Minnesota, although I think Journey will get there. If Jan doesn’t pick up a couple of starter level wings that can handle the ball, shoot the 3, and play adequately on the defensive end, this team is in real danger of slipping back to the middle of the conference.

After getting a silver platter handed to her.

I have not changed my point of view since first joining this forum—a team can never have enough three point shooters. Get more please !!

That’s an interesting question regarding Layla. Obviously only what Jan thinks will matter. We will get our answer when the portal period starts. Does Jan think Layla will take big enough strides from her freshman year? Jan will give us her opinion soon.
Many many teams are lacking a big post presence and looking for one. No player better than Layla will want to come be Ava's backup. They'll have better options where they can start. Were Layla to get in the portal, she would have a lot of money thrown her way and a lot of options.

I think Layla will make huge strides over the off season. Remember, Ava had a string of Big Ten games last year where she never even left the bench. Now look at her!

If anyone has watched Vanderbilt women this year, they have a point guard that went to high school at Loyola Academy in Chicago.

Wondered if Iowa ever recruited this young lady?

Anyone who has seen her play this season at Vandy would ask why not if that is the case. Would be the perfect addition if she were ever to leave Vandy for any reason. Highly doubtful knowing her circumstances.

Addi Mack from Minnesota and Galvan from Illinois were 2 way undervalued small point guard recruits. Jan has a great track record when it comes to undervalued posts, but not sure she has a similar recruiting eye when it comes to perimeter players. Mack and Galvan (and Grocholski and McKinney from Minnesota) are some recent recruiting mis-evaluations by Iowa and many others.

Jan probably didn't recruit them because she knew she could count on Kylie for points

While I could see Layla making good strides, I don't correlate that to Ava's growth. People forget that pre season last year the word was that Ava was going to start game one. Then she got sick and missed a couple of weeks. By then Jan decided to go with AOG. Then a couple of games in AOG had her career game against Drake, (27pts and 10 boards). Ava played just the last 45 seconds. I still think Ava's breakout in March would have come sooner if she didn't get 6 or 7 DNP along the way. Water under the bridge at this point.

Iowa needs wing players that can score, period. We lost to Minnesota because of their superb wings. They're all averaging in double figures and play excellent defense.
Just a note, they are all seniors. Experience helps Minnesota. They lose 7 seniors/grad students after this year. They will come back to earth quickly unless the portal is kind

Imagine a few of the Minnesota recruits Iowa is after may decide to stay "home" if they sustain some success through the tournaments. Could get interesting.

FWIW, Minnesota's 4 best players are Grace Grocholski (Jr.), Tori McKinney (So.), Mara Braun (R-Jr.) and Amaya Battle (Sr.), the first three of which return next season. The Gophers need to go portal shopping for bigs, and perhaps a point guard. They had a good recruiting year in the backcourt, snagging two guards with Iowa offers: Natalie Kussow and Tori Oehrlein.

yeah count me as concerned. I know she only a freshman, but she has not progressed much in area of the game this year. Hopefully she wil off-season, but big gamble IMO.
There's plenty of time to show growth.

Our offensive numbers in the Minnesota game were pretty good. Our problem was we couldn’t guard them. Chit Chat was the only player who could stay in front of them on drives. Their guards and wings had career high shooting games

There was a point in the game tonight where Jan had Journey, Stuelke, and Heiden in together. Possibly experimenting with her at the 3? I could see her getting minutes at both next year but agree 4 is probably more likely although undersized.
Journey has shown that she can play the 3 or the 4 and is probably the most versatile player on the team right now. I think a starting 5 of Ava, Journey, CCW, Stremlow, and Deal with Woliczko also getting heavy minutes could be a very good starting lineup. Depth is definitely a concern today on the perimeter. That's probably the greatest portal need.
