John McNulty? The guy has been going nowhere for the last 20 years. That's not an insult- it's reality. He is a position coach and no more. He came back to work for Greg, didn't he? And this was after he burned his bridge at Rutgers under Ash.

Flood has done OK for himself. He must not be a total zero because Sarkisian has taken him from the Falcons to Alabama to Texas where Flood holds the OC title, but not the responsibilities. He is making really great money with no state income tax and very little responsibility/pressure. Seems like a win.

I never said I liked Greg. I have been in his company several times. He is a good and decent man. I'm not wild about the way he does some things as a coach, and he seems to be stuck in an old way of doing things, much like Pikiell. Bully and not easy to work for is a narrative, but not confirmed. There have been many, for example PJ Fleck and Mario Cristobal, who have spoken highly of Greg. Maybe the negative narrative comes from a few people who could not cut it as P4 coaches. We don't know.

If he is so miserable to work for, explain why Kirk C has stuck with him for so long.
Noonan has been on staff since 2020.
Brock going into his 4th year.
Shaw in his sixth year.
Vallone on staff since 2020.

Narratives are like opinions and buttholes, everyone has one and some stink.
I think he’s talking about Joe Harasymiak, but in his never ending quest to shout at the sky about all things GS, he got the first name wrong.

If that's the case, it's like arguing with a random dude in a bar.

If it's Harasymiak, a little research would go a long way instead of pushing narratives. See the stuff in bolded red below. Sounds like he has nothing but respect for Greg.

"I went to college down the road in Springfield, Mass., which is about half an hour south [of Amherst.] So it’s good to be back."

What attracted you to this specific job, which made it more desirable than other opportunities that you may have had?
"I think back to my background. I went to Springfield, which is a Division III school, and at the time, UMass was I-AA (modern-day FCS), winning national championships, going to national championships going in the playoffs on a consistent basis and you know, when I was at Maine before they moved up to the FBS, we played them a couple of times and just got familiar with the place and it’s got everything that you need to win.
It’s got great facilities, great structure, great campus, unreal education, which I think you know based on this league, where we got to be number one or two in terms of our academic successes. And it’s just kind of a place that now that we’re in the MAC, now that we have direction, I think it’s a place that hopefully we can get going in the right direction."

UMass is in a very unique position, having emerged from independence and are now taking on a conference schedule for the first time in about a decade.

What is a time in your life you thought was really challenging, but you feel proud of the way that you responded to it? This can be football-related or non-football related.

"I think going into the season last year at Rutgers, we had played Top 15 defense the year before over a two-year transition. I forget where they ranked when I first got there, but we changed that into a top 15 defense. I really feel like Coach [Greg] Schiano and myself in our relationship, we knew that, you know, we were the missing piece when I got there. We really changed the ground structure, they’ve been the back-to-back bowl games now, and I feel like I’ve helped with that."

What’s positive? This isn’t some incredibly desired coach. Maybe he’s great. Maybe he isn’t. This isn’t some high profile move though.

You’re changing your argument.

You stated nobody would come here because coaching for/with GS won’t land a P4 head coaching job. I simply reflected RU isn’t too dissimilar from other lower P4 programs concerning coordinator promotion to other P4 jobs…and without a counter argument chose to pivot implying I’m defending GS (which I’m not)…it’s like a dog losing a staring contest.
Not changing my argument because it’s right! You choose to throw in the other schools.

my argument is still factual. You didn’t like it and tried changing.

I just responded do your delusional loyalty to our bad HC

To me the comical part is you singing the same song about firing our football coach and our basketball coach over and over and over again.
I can't help wondering when you thought RU had an acceptable coach of either program. That, of course. is assuming you actually are a Rutgers fan.
Great question ! Greg deserves all the credit in the world in his first stay with Ru even thought he never won the big game or conference. After his failure in Tampa and OSU combined with his off the field issues. He should have never been welcomed back here!

No one can deny is poor failures on game day or constant X and O failures.

Pike deserves credit for his team getting to the tournament and unfortunately he has never evolved and the game passed him by.

Traditionally for a school like Rutgers you need a low end coach who catches lightning in a bottle to prove it is possible at RU. That attracts a bigger named coach with proven success to take you to that next level.

We take that small success and anoint said coach to Hero status. Then follow that coach back into the basement and start all over again.

I want us to act like a true power 4 school. I understand when we were in lesser conferences or when we didn’t have a full rev share from the BIG. All of that is over now and it’s time to act like a true power 4 school.

No school committed to winning keeps either coach with the failures over the last few years.

- he was very good in the old days when recruits were still doing dvd's of their film that had to be sent out to teams- that allowed coaches like him to really find the gems that were not at a powerhouse program, that coaches from out of state would have no clue about. These were the 2 star recruits that played mult NFL seasons.
The above is a very interesting and astute point. GS was likely more effective when he could outwork others and his information gathering was superior. The mantra about him being hard to work for hasn't been borne out by Fleck Cristobal etc who worked for him in the early years when he was waaay more in oversight than now so I think that's urban legend like Justice Hairston fumbles or if Townsend catches we win the game. A kernel of fact, but upon dissection, not so accurate in total.

Agree with everything except Urban Legend…Greg was needed, twice. But, in a way to try to say this correctly- all great coaches are hard and ego driven men. They have to be- but he did two things that I had hoped he learned from. His micromanagement was not only true but I don’t know if any sort of OCD or not- needed meeting rooms at near freezing at all times- even the meetings he was not a part of, is a little nuts- but the real fault is…he really did not “mentor”- he was not just tough, he was actually a very poor leader in this way.
As for players-,
He had a really bad habit with many position groups he did not know- to call out players, try to embarrass them but not give anything constructive or “coaching” back

If lacrosse hired this guy, a certain person would be shouting to the heavens. Just saying. Our recent offensive coach has not paid dividends yet. Different standards?
Maybe I'm misreading this. You don't think KC has done a good job with the offense?

I know we **** on schiano for Gameday issues….i get it and minus as frustrated as the next person

that said…he brought in someone completely new to his coaching tree and shaking things up. That shows change!

also let’s not discount the fact that there is another team that Rutgers has to play to win games. They typically have more money and talent—we lack resources.

Now maybe with money to play with schiano eye for talent can still persevere over other teams.

these are the type of comments that turn a thread into a cesspool of stupid. Congrats, you belong on the round table
