Wrong again, the up to 1" forecast for the Philly-NJ-NYC area I post for (which includes EPA and some of SNJ/SENY) was actually quite good with most getting 1/2-1", although some did only get 0.2" or so, like me, which is going to happen as trying to be within only a a very narrow 1/2" range is impossible as that's only about 0.03" precip at 15:1 ratios.

You're confusing the location with the snowfall. For example "Franklin Twp 2.4 ENE 0.5" is a location of 2.4 miles ENE of Franklin Twp and a snowfall of 0.5". It has always been a terrible way of reporting snowfall and it confuses almost everyone. I've asked them to change it, as have others on the weather boards but to no avail.

I finally took the car out for a spin this afternoon. It felt like friggin Antarctica. I haven't felt that cold in a long time. The wind was awful. And the side streets were full of piles of dirty snow. I can't wait for it to melt away...whenever that may be. Reminded me of the old days living in an apartment in Newark where people would literally fight over a precious parking spot. Thank god for a driveway these days for me.
BTW, are they really projecting wind chills of -15 tonight ?
Winter sucks.
Also, 2025 was not a good year for me. But so far I'm not impressed with 2026.
3 more years 😂

Yes. Starting the 15 in the 40s and showing almost 50 on the 18th. Spring is in the air.
Today is likely the last brutally cold day of winter. Low 30s Monday. For that matter nothing in long range indicates daily highs in the 20s. Winter over? Not quite but we can see the end coming around the bend. Praise Jesus!

Probably, although it can still get pretty cold through early March, but the long range models aren't showing that now (but have been overdoing showing warmth in the 10+ day timeframe all winter). And even if we have "normal" temps with some warmer and some colder days, if the cold coincides with precip, obviously it can still snow through late March.

Next up is the threat for next Sunday/Monday. Models showing a potential winter storm, which could be anything from mostly rain to a mix to mostly snow to a miss to our south, which is not unusual 7-8 days out. However, unlike more recent storms and threats of storms (like the 2/1 event that got suppressed), we won't have a very cold airmass in place, making a mix or mostly/all rain more likely especially for 95 to the coast. Worth keeping an eye on.

Didn't know. I guess with wind I didn't hear sirens.
It was one of the houses right on the lake, closer to Route 71. Think they made a good knock on it quickly, but in the cold, hard work pumping water and putting out fire.

Wrong. Actually there's no real chance of a winter storm before 2/15-16, so it's far from every day, but I'm sure you knew that and just wanted to troll.

So saying the possible storm is more likely wet than white is "honking." I think maybe you don't know what that word means. Also, why would I be pissed off? This has been a great winter so far.

You're reading comprehension is suspect. I said you are honking like a pissed off goose not that you are pissed off. You ever see what a pissed off goose looks like honking? It's winter everyday. Let's post a possibility everyday.

After the past month or so of cold, I think we all can agree on:

Global warming is freaking awesome! Mild winters rule.

No falling snow on our boardwalk trek to dinner on Saturday, but it may have been the most Arctic conditions I've ever walked around in, with the low temperature, snow everywhere, and high winds. I was glad to get back inside. This winter is brutal; I only remember one other that rivaled it...

1994?

It was brutally cold in North Jersey. Snow fell on Christas Eve and my yard remained snow-covered every day up to April 1, the day we sold our house.

1994 was one of the worst I can remember for sure. We had a flash freeze in early January and a week of single digit highs I believe. Roads were a mess for days.

Jan-94 also had the worst ice storm ever for much of CNJ. I was in Ireland for work, which at least meant my then pregnant wife didn't have to do snow and ice removal while I was gone (company paid for that kind of thing back then).

Precipitation developed across New Jersey during the pre-dawn hours of January 7th. Across northern New Jersey, precipitation was mainly in the form of sleet and freezing rain at first, but as colder air pushed southward at all levels of the atmosphere, it mixed with and changed to snow during the afternoon of the 7th. It then changed back to sleet and freezing rain on the night of the 7th as warm air returned at mid levels. Further south across central New Jersey, precipitation was almost exclusively in the form of freezing rain, though some sleet mixed in during the afternoon of the 7th. In much of southern New Jersey, the low levels of the atmosphere remained just warm enough to keep the precipitation in the form of plain rain for most of the storm. Precipitation became moderate to occasionally heavy during the night of the 7th as the center of the storm approached. It then briefly changed to snow before ending from west to east near dawn on January 8th as cold air briefly wrapped back across the state behind the storm. Ice accretion from freezing rain exceeded 1 inch across much of central New Jersey, making this the worst ice storm in modern times across this part of the state. Further north, snow and ice accumulations ranged from 2 to 8 inches. In southern New Jersey, warm air at low levels prevented much more than trace amounts of ice and snow from falling.

Was off from school for that whole week in '94. Unlike a snow day, tho, it was incredibly boring. Nowhere to go, nothing to do outside but slip on your ***. First day or two were ok, but then it was house arrest. Highlight of each day was getting the mail.

Never been happier to get back to school in my life

Friends were visiting yesterday that come from a family of firefighters and they were talking about the difficulty of firefighting in weather like we are experiencing. I can't imagine ever having to deal with stuff like that. Much respect. (y)

Yes and it seems like there have been a lot of them in NJ-NY lately too.

I know Stringer Bell says no one cares about a 40 degree day, but I’ll be “damn near barbecuing” when we hit that temperature next week.
I made it to Sunset Beach, SC last Tuesday. Half way down I got a call heat broken , pipes frozen at rental home..luckily they got it fixed. I always pack 1 pair of jeans but usually never ever wear them as it is shorts everyday with temps over/around 55. Been wearing those jeans everyday since getting here and today will be the start of shorts time (went from mid 40's to 67 now and staying that way for now.. been clued to my inside/outside security cams back home to be sure things are ok there...the driveway finally appeared but the tundra remains I see.

That BBQ is great for the winter mental and cabin fever. Do it and enjoy!

Winter weather advisories are up for tonight in the counties in blue, basically counties along/N 0f78 in PA/NJ, plus Middlesex and Monmouth and over into NYC/SENY, for the chance of a light glaze of freezing rain, but looking at the ice accumulation map, it seems like a stretch to be including Middlesex/Monmouth. On the other hand it only takes a light glaze to create hazardous conditions, so be careful out there.

Looking forward to the more favorable temperatures. Anything to be concerned about with this freezing rain during the morning rush? NE Somerset County heading to Middlesex. I think the temps should go up pretty fast either way.

I ice skated home on the streets from playing pond hockey during that. I think we had a solid 2 inches of ice coating everything - school cancelled for a week.
