Anecdotal evidence?

I also can't imagine caring about politics enough to let it effect the music I watch/listen to. Could not care less the political affiliation/sexuality/religion/morals of an artist. If I enjoy their output, that's all I care about.

I probably won't watch the halftime show tonight, but that's because I usually don't. Artist has no bearing.

I will not be watching the woke bowl. It has become way to corporate. Plus most of the commercials are stupid. Hard pass but I will cook up a great meal and watch a fun movie. We may put the woke bowl on the other channel, to see if any commercials look good enough to turn the sound up.

It should be noted that the question was asked, and the provided answer options were clearly meant to elicit these type of responses. So, the demographic you’re targeting didn’t just show up on the WZ with the intent of bitching about the halftime show.

I can guarantee most musical artists all of you grew up liking were liberal. With the possible exception of country, but even more of those probably are than you would think.

If the bands of the 60s/70s had the platform of those today, you should would have heard more about it.

And they were certainly just as subversive to the conservative culture at the time as the ones are now.

If you are going to push boundaries artistically, you generally are in most senses.

I’m passing on the Super Bowl as a whole, including the half time show. With the Olympics available on Peacock, I’m watching it. Pro football is OK but I don’t care for either team so I’ll pass. Outside of Prince, I haven’t seen a halftime show that’s been worth the hype. Count me out for the bunny guy.

Also, is there anything worse than pro football pregame shows?

I think it’s a little overdone. If there’s a chance someone is spewing division on either side I’m not watching à la Oscar’s. Ironically if these folks would just sing/say thanks/etc… I’d be great with it.
I wasn’t interested in Bad Bunny music even if he was a flag waver tho. Never heard of him. Don’t care to get up to speed. I would much rather NFL just select Journey or something in that vein.

I would agree with that. I am conservative in my views but believe mainstream music of the mid-60s and early 70s is the best over the last 60 years in terms of quality (originality, sophistication, etc. — as I mentioned previously ITT). Heck, my avatar gives that away….

For debate, though, I’d argue that mainstream music has regressed significantly since the early 70s. And that’s shaped by how much time and investment folks want to put toward actually listening…. My lack of interest is less about this BB character and more about the fact that mainstream music is painful across the board.

Would not disagree with you there. That's also my favorite era of mainstream music.

I couldn't name a single song by Bad Bunny. I'm 33 and generally not hip to the mainstream music, though that's never what I really listened to. Always been more on the indie rock/alternative side of things when it comes to modern music.

yeah he was a bad arse performer...like I said above I had no clue who Bad Bunny was before all this. It is a political stunt. Queen and Freddie Mercury were legit artists. Dude was amazing and his lifestyle ended up killing him but man....that dude could perform.

This post, for the most part, represents my thoughts as well. I have watched a show every now and then (Snoop Dog in 2022), but generally hate the crowd gathering around the stage doing that stupid arm waving. I feel the show takes away from the game itself.

Bring a proud Puerto Rican is the same as being a proud South Carolinian, I have not problem with it. No problem with Spanish. Is he wearing a dress? I would prefer he not do that.

Everything is a spectacle. Very little substance (without digging for it), and that’s been a societal trend for many years now. Not a surprise, either.

I would argue that the 60s and 70s bands were more countercultural than picking a political side. I never saw any of the rock artist that I enjoy listening to burning American flags on stage. Sure their were controversies, but they never took it that far. In my opinion, any artist that burns an American flag on stage should not be allowed to perform at America’s biggest party.

It seems like I remember reading an article in the Clemson alumni magazine a few years ago about a woman Clemson grad that was over booking and producing the halftime show. Anyone else remember that?
