Bad Bunny is one of the top 5 most streamed artists in the US and regularly trades in the top 3 globally as well. Boomer/GenX whites and who only listen to classic rock and corporate country slop cannot comprehend that America is much much bigger than their cul de sac.

This isn’t some random blue haired industry plant. Dude is legitimately one of the biggest names on the planet right now in entertainment across multiple mediums- music, movies, TV, Hell he’s even in pro wrestling - and has been for the better part of a decade.

Part of aging gracefully is realizing that not everything is for you. It’s ok to not really “get it”. If you’re 45-65, then your parents and grandparents probably thought Queen and Michael Jackson were gibberish and don’t even get them started on Run DMC or early 90’s west coast hip hop.

I really hope that more and more Americans are waking up to and getting tired of this constant culture war ******** where anyone else enjoying anything that 50 year old Baptist dudes don’t like has to be indicative of some gay satanic commie psyop. No one’s taking your Luke Bryan from you, you can calm down.
End the thread here, please.

World’s biggest artist? Pretty sure that belongs to the one and only Taylor swift. But nice try.
Swift outperforms him in the US but BB has been the most streamed artist globally 4 out of the last 6 years. Streaming is the predominant way people consume music these days. Swifties buy albums because it’s a cult but she’s an anomaly.

Don’t get it twisted, the same NPC’s in this thread kvetching about bad bunny would be re-installing their “Taylor Swift bad” programs if she was doing the halftime show because neurotic contrarianism and self victimization by everything in existence are their only personality traits.

I know that, he himself said his music isn’t for Gringos in 2022. Not sure why I need to bend over backwards to listen to his crappy music. I prefer bands like phish, goose and panic. I’m also under 45 and hate country music. Great projection tho.

Objectively this is true.

In this case, biggest ain’t the best. In my opinion, just the opposite.

He said he wasn’t going to start writing music in English or water down aspects of how he represents his Puerto Rican heritage just to appease the sensitivities of a continental English speaking audience.

I wouldn’t count myself as a Bad Bunny fan. My Spotify wrapped this year was all metalcore, death metal, esoteric guitar prog, and some Appalachian roots music. Those artists don’t have the mass appeal to play the halftime show and that’s ok. There’s a lot of things out there in the world that are for me and part of being an adult and not an overgrown man-child is being able to accept that there are things that aren’t for you without throwing a tantrum.

Are you going to watch the Super Bowl already? Yes.

Are most 13-25 year old girls? Not as much.

Are they also trying to expand their viewership internationally?

So you bring in the most popular artist in the world. Pretty good business practice, if you ask me.

my daughter is an international business major…I can promise she won’t be watching this halftime show.

Rarely watch NFL even playoffs or Super Bowl. With Winter Olympics being on it’s the perfect alternative. Add in Ser Dunk and Egg.

Will check in on scores. Maybe watch some 4th quarter. But if speed skating on all bets are off. Especially short track!

I’m not really sure streams tell the whole tale when labeling the biggest artist world wide. That’s questionable but I don’t really care about that piece of 💩 I won’t be watching. I also don’t really care about the world’s opinion.

Need an option for: never heard of the act or the controversy until opening thread on TI.

Because that's me.
That's pretty much me. I only know of him because he was in a Corona commercial and I had to ask someone else who that was. Didn't know he was doing halftime or that there was outrage about it.

What I find weird is the people in this thread, posting on what is predominantly a football site/board, saying they are not watching the SB at all. Odd.

I don't know anything about him so I can't speak to this. But there's an interest here that I have in your comments. You're talking as though popular sentiment somehow justifies a thing. The world is an absolute massive s*** show right now and you're going to say that popular sentiment is somehow good? That people who cling to other things need to realize everything isn't for them? I agree with you! But I think you should recognize popular sentiment is not necessarily a good thing. In fact most of the time it isn't. Chastising people for having different values and advocating for those values is very much a popular sentiment these days, and it is asinine to the extreme. I share your fatigue with the culture war. It's a haven of stupidity in many cases. But there's a baseline that makes a lot of sense.

I'm not going to believe about all the bad things that bad bunny has done. I have no idea about them. I don't know him and I don't know any of his songs. So for that reason I won't be watching because it doesn't interest me. Beyond that, the NFL is the biggest prostitute for money there is and all of this publicity is something they are loving which is why they'll do it again next year. Half the people will watch because they love it and the other half will watch so they can hate it and then complain about it. That's a win for them in both camps. Me...I'll just turn it off and not feel one way or the other about it.

#1 I had no idea who Bad Bunny was until he was announced as the Halftime Show so if he’s the biggest artist in the world I’m way behind times

#2 no I won’t watch some dude swearing a dress singing in Spanish that told Americans to learn his language when there are no Spanish speaking NFL teams represented or even exist

#3 the NFL has royally and now regularly screwed up the NFL halftime show. The NFL has become a good product and could do better. This is an embarrassment and no way I watch.
He actually said he doesn’t mind or expect people to learn Spanish, he just wants them to dance to his music.

He’s done nothing but spread positivity and he is receiving death threats for it. The “Christian” right has no limits when it comes to intolerance and hate.

The show should be great, and being proud of being a Puerto Rican does not equal hating America.

Some of the responses in here are despicable and truly evidence of how many southerners just follow marching orders when it comes to being told what to like or dislike.

I will be watching and I’m excited to see what he does, as someone who has been a fan of his since before he was even listed on Spotify.

Objectively this is true.

Spotify isn’t the only source to stream and streaming numbers to not dictate most popular or biggest. More goes into it than that.

TAylor last tour-2.04 billion world wide
Bad bunny-227 million.

Even if you did it per show because she did perform more, she still slaughters him.

I don’t have any idea about Bad Bunny. I have zero interest in listening to music in Spanish…but I’m not going to change the channel over it…I’ll probably just pee and read The West Zone with it playing in the background.

this is just a political b/s move by the NFL…

If you’re OK with a dude wearing a dress refusing to sing in English that’s on you. You can stand in your den and dance all you want to. I’ll pass

Streaming is by far the most accessible way to consume music now.

Taylor is a cultural phenomenon and her Eras tour did the industry equivalent of defying gravity. She’s an outlier in how much money she’s able to get her fans to spend and a lot of that has to do specifically with the social strata that she appeals to.

Streaming is the more egalitarian measure. It gives you a better picture of what people are listening to regardless of their ability to access the higher price point tiers of fandom (concerts, physical media). It’s closer to what the radio charts used to be because streaming has usurped FM radio as the consolidation in the radio industry replaced human DJ’s and request lines with algorithmic playlists and vertically integrated production to consumption business models. Radio play is more than ever about what the company that owns the stations want you to listen to, but the listener still has substantial control when it comes to streaming.

Make sure you tell us about it 2 or 3 more times first
Make sure you tell us why he’s the best 2 or 3 more times. You seem as hellbent and angry as your opposition in this thread. But isn’t that the point of all of this? Of social media? Of these types of choices by large entities? Let’s divide and watch the puppets destroy each other.

He’s not for me. I’m not angry about it. I understand the game being played here. It’s the people that get worked up that don’t. Don’t like it? Don’t watch. That’s your real voice here. Not getting angry on socials. That’s worthless and counterproductive / what is wanted. You like it or interested? Then watch. To each his own.

I think most people are just sick of being told what is normal. What they have to accept and like. So they voice it. And then when they do they are lumped into a group and made fun of (boomer / Gen X / Christian / white etc.). All the while people forget we are all people of the same generation that the media puts labels on all of us to divide. And here we are. The business of politicians and media is to do just that. Divide. And buddy, business is good.

I’m convinced that you guys would repeatedly **** your pants crying if bisexual cross-dresser Farrokh Bulsara from Tanzania played the halftime show.

I’m talking about Freddie Mercury

I have no desire to here any singer's political stances.

@J.Greenbeans has it spot on…it should not be a political statement. It should be a show

the Super Bowl halftime show and all the commercials used to be the best and everyone looked forward to them

Having a dude in a dress refusing to sing in English is ridiculous. If it was my son singing in a dress in another language I wouldn’t watch

You think a European country would have a dude in a dress singing in Spanish at halftime at their biggest soccer match? Hell no…they’d have riots…this is embarrassing.

Never heard of the guy before the halftime show controversy exploded. Zero interest in it.

I’ll throw this out for debate: one of my professors once suggested that popular music turned to trash after ~1973. I agree with his premise overall. Certainly some good composers since then, but mainstream music has regressed drastically in terms of originality and sophistication since the early 70s. That also correlates to what folks want to hear (and the time / investment they want to put into actually listening)….
