What makes me go hmmmm,is, Pizza Hut is part of the YUM companies. Al the other brands under that wing are killing it. KFC, Taco Bell ,Pepsi. Why did the ceo not fix Pizza Hut? I’m thinking they are setting it up to sell and are going to buy a competitor. Like Wendy’s. Who is in trouble

Loved the priazza back in the day. They need to bring that back and Taco Bell needs to bring back the beef meximelt.

Tupelo has so many good pizza spots, we don't really do any of the big 4 pizza chains. We do love some Sam’s Club pizza, but Pizza Doctor is my lunch spot.
Is Vanellis still good? I haven’t been since it sold. That’s where my wife and I went on our first date, not the one on main, not the one on North Gloster, but the original dive down by the hospital. God that was some good pizza.

Back in the day (late 70s early 80s) that was considered fine dining. There was a post on X a while back that had the locations where they were still decorated OG style.

Growing up it was a great place to eat. We ate at the one in Tupelo about 6 years ago (our last attempt to support them). The service was horrible. They treated us like we were disturbing their break time. It took 40 minutes for the pie to arrive and it was disappointing. I told my wife that I hope they go out of business and they did. Now there is a Popeyes in the building.

Still good. Not my regular stop, but good when I go.

Locations change in value as time passes. Some pastures are turned into thriving suburbs and some great metro locations turn into ghettos and some into ghost towns. With 6,500 locations you know some locations have probalbly just deteriorated to the point they're just not viable anymore.

#1. Pizza Hut is owned by YUM who also owns Taco Bell and KFC. Somewhere in the early 00's after Pepsi spun all three off, they began running all three like Taco Bell and KFC shas suffered and Pizza Hut has suffered even more. They will get sold to PE soon and in a rare case, that might actually be the best option at this point.

#2. They have no identity. For 50 years, Pizza Hut was where you go to eat pizza. Sit down with a couple of pan pizzas, a pitcher of beer and a game of Pac Man. Domino's was the delivery place. In the last 25 years Domino's has destroyed them. In the last 15 years, Pizza Hut has tried to become Domino's. Their logo, stores and advertising is all garbage. Its generic as 17.

#3. Some pizzas are made for takeout and others are not. A pan pizza is most definitely not. It should be a light fluffy thick dough with the bottom and edge of the crust pan fried to a crispy goodness. With a good sauce and LMWM cheese, it could be wonderful out of the oven. But bland sauce and greasy cheese and then throwing in it a box inside a warming bag... It's a soggy 17ing mess.

#4. It will probably have to file bankruptcy and shed some shìtty operators that hire crackheads as employees, but the brand can be saved. People still like to sit down and eat pizza and drink a draft beer. They should rebuild there brand as a place to come grab a buffet lunch during the day and have a fun inexpensive family dinner during the week. Offer takeout and kill delivery altogether. Then run ads telling everyone how shìtty pizza is when you get it delivered. The best pizza is eaten fresh from the oven without the cardboard box. And it's served with a draft beer of your choice and a salad bar.... Shoot, I am missing old school pizza hut right now.

Pro tip. When you pick up your pizza next time get there early, as soon as it's ready, crack open the lid on the box 1-2" to let the steam escape. Don't let them put it in the warmer, you have to get there before it's done. Let it sit in the passenger seat with the box cracked open. Have the wife kick the oven on 375-425 before you get home, slide that baby in for 2-3 minutes and serve. Way better than that soggy delivery shìt you normally eat.

Spent many late afternoon and nights there at papa Vanellis. Always full at lunch with hospital, and Dossett employees.
Late in the afternoon, papa would get tanked up and come out of kitchen and talk to customers.
Sometimes we would match quarters for the beer we drank. Probably lost to papa 75% of the time
When we won beer was free, when he won he gave winnings to his employees

It never was as good after it left the dive.

The old Pizza Hut location on 12 near SHS, that became a bar briefly, is it empty now?
No. In the last few years it's been a Mexican restaurant (that did a lot of updating to the building) then the Starkvegas Bar and Grill and now it's a Japanese steakhouse called O'Sake

Pizza Hut in the 80s had draft beer, a buffet, and a full salad bar. It was a great experience.

Whoever was CEO when they decided to drop the restaurant part to compete with only-delivery Dominoe's was a complete moron.

Consider that basic Pizza Hut restaurant experience is what places like Mellow Mushroom revived and experienced great success.

It always struck me as weird as a kid that Starkville had two restaurant Pizza Huts--the one at 12@Louisville and the one by the movie theater.

Did the Bar and Grill not last long? Seems as though it was only there a few months and they did no advertising?

Back in the 90s, there was a take out Pizza Hut on Old Canton (south of Parham Bridges) in NE Jxn. It produced the best pizza I've ever had (and I've had Pizza from Regina's on Thacker in Boston and John's of Bleeker in Manhattan)

It did not. A few months at best. Doomed from the start with that name IMO. The Japanese place has been open since around October/November, so we'll see if they can stay open any longer than the previous occupants.

Pizza Hut is still pretty dang good for takeout. I just wish I had an option of an actual sit-down place like I had as a kid.

Seems like every time I try to order a couple of multiple-topping larges for take out from Papa John's, Dominoe's, or Pizza Hut, it's $40. Little Caesar's great for the price compared to those.

You shut your wh@re mouth!11!11!

nothing could ever top the Danvers $1.00 hamburger ($1.06 with tax) which got you free access to the salad bar to “dress” your burger. Loaded that burger wrapper up with all manner of $h!+.
Lived in Oxford for a couple years, my wife went to ole miss (she’s a Dawg). We ate at Danvers there all the time, the roast beef sandwich and access to the salad bar to fix it up was awesome.

They are only closing 250 across the country. I go to Papa Johns because they give 35% discounts to veterans. Lost Pizza gives 15%.
The Cujo at Lost is one of my top 3. Orange and Blue at a place in Auburn is #1 by a long way, house special at Mello is 2. Cujo is 3. Nothing else comes close to those 3 for me.

Do yourself a favor and head north to the little town of Baldwyn and grab a thick crust pie from The Pizza Factory there. They are fantastic. The little calzones they call "smokestacks" are fine eating too.

Not so fast. The PH in Amory has been refurbed to modernize and they still serve in restaurant food bar...and its very good. Just another over reaction by natl chains during the covid plan-demic.

I will be surprised if Osake makes it long at all.
Food was fine but it was priced like umi without the atmosphere or service.

I grew up with McDonalds, KFC, and Pizza Hut. Sure hope they don't go away, but this isn't good news.

Still remember the waitress Carrie . We closed the place down one night. They’d swept and mopped and Carrie comes out and says “ you guys gotta go”. We told her we weren’t leaving until the pitchers on the table were empty. She comes back a few minutes later with 3-4 huge styrofoam cups with lids and says “ here’s you a doggy pitcher now go”. Never left there again without a doggy pitcher.

I was going to say, it seems their marketing is absolute crap these days.

I ate the buffet in Troy AL about 9 years ago and it was still good then. Their pizza was always good. And in my hometown it’s still kicking and again, the pizza is very good. Just a weird deal.

The one on Hwy 82 and corner of Louisville St was legit back in the 80’s!
Deep dish pizza and a pitcher of cold Bud Light.
👍👍
This was true until Bud Light went woke; I've not had once since and don't intend to in this lifetime!!
