with Madison Hricik on the Gazette Podcast.

That young lady did a very good interview.

He said they are a developmental program so they are excited to get so many portal players with 2, 3 and 4 years of elidgability.

Interesting that there are 30 new football players on campus. Sixteen through the portal and 14 freshmen are enrolling early.
10 more will arrive in June. Springball will be very interesting this year.

the uptick in talent, coaching, and drive to win is palpable...in his waning years kirk is apparently kicking things up a few notches. vibe is similar to early KF years when his teams could play top teams like a peer and beat them. i look forward to seeing iowa to play osu and oregon and such over the next few years.

edit: just realized that my post veered off topic by a couple parsecs but i'll let it be :)

As long as our evaluation and retention are solid, this feels like a buildup to huge seasons in 2027 & 2028

The RB probably the one with biggest impact immediately.
Phillips sounds like he'll get some carries for certain. My guy is Tony Diaz at WR. A lot of top programs were after him, which is partially why Iowa got him... But a stud on the team, or buried on a depth chart in Alabama.

I am really hopefully that a couple(or All!) of the DBs make the depth chart. Sounds like a couple are going to be immediate impact players.

Glad that so many are 30 guys on campus for winter conditioning and Spring Ball!! That is HUGE, and cannot be understated.

No disrespect to the current roster but we need better QBs.
Hecklinski & Hank(and even Fitz) all received a lot of praise in bowl-prep. They have been mentioned in multiple podcasts from multiple reporters. Leistikow had some really good words for the QBs. I believe Tom did as well.

Another very good reason to keep bowl games. The bowl-prep for the next year starters is like an extra Spring Ball.

Thanks for posting! I will have to give it a listen. A big question I have had, was how many players are already on campus for winter conditioning and Spring Ball. 30 new guys on campus...That is great news!

Several interesting numbers. 14 - 2026 recruits enrolled early. Of all the portal players who enrolled, only one player is one and done

The DT Brice Stevenson was reported as one & done, BUT the U of I lists him as a Junior??? Maybe the with the new redshirt rules in place, they can be retroactive?? He only played in 9 games in 2024, which is the new limit(ridiculous).

With the new redshirt rules, we are going to have a lot of players get an extra. Similar to the Covid year. IF they go retroactively... A lot players will be left out and force to go to FCS...again. And a lot of players will get left out completely, and have to drop down to DII.

Watched this morning. Tyler is a quality young man who does a great job.

With how lawsuit happy that players are, it almost sounds like collusion when Tyler says he calls Michigan State, Minny, Wisky, etc to see what they are offering a prospect.

I think he is trying to peg the market value by position, not individual players. I have heard him say that deep pocket schools pay above market for players and they are not going to do that.

No restriction on it. No different than if I called an employer locally and asked what they pay on average for a certain job. I am sure it is back stabbing but also at times back slapping if you do me a favor I will do you a favor, etc.
