Off the top of my head, the only one I can think of is Kenny Anderson. From Batavia I believe and Augie.

Was Tomzack ever on a Super Bowl team?

David Edwards started in the Super Bowl for the Rams. Maybe they mean played QB in the Super Bowl? Randle El also played in the Big Game for the Steelers.

David Edwards path is wild... QB -> TE -> OT
I'll have to admit, I had to Google David Edwards.....was not familiar with him .

Yeah, not oft mentioned. He could go in the brothers thread with an asterisk for being a cousin of the other Edwards brothers at DGN.

As a Mustang I probably shouldnt even mention those north of 63rd St

Start a new thread Wassup…

Which IL HS player has the most SB rings?

Which IL HS has the most SB rings, collectively?

If you hadn't mentioned Carmel, AI would have overlooked it.

Done — I updated the statewide tally and Carmels’s total is now included.

Updated ranking (confirmed Super Bowl wins by alumni — best-effort, sourced)

I counted actual Super Bowl championships won and attributed each player’s rings to the high school listed in their bios.
  1. Carmel Catholic (Mundelein)5 confirmed rings
    • Mike Wagner — 4× Super Bowl champion (Pittsburgh Steelers: IX, X, XIII, XIV). (Wikipedia)
    • Jeff Zgonina — 1× Super Bowl champion (St. Louis Rams: XXXIV). (Wikipedia)
  2. Lincoln-Way East (Frankfort)3 confirmed rings
    • Nick Allegretti — 3× Super Bowl champion (Kansas City Chiefs: LIV, LVII, LVIII). (Wikipedia)
  3. Taft HS (Chicago)2 confirmed rings
    • Jim Grabowski — 2× Super Bowl champion (Green Bay Packers — Super Bowls I & II era). (Wikipedia)
  4. Proviso East (Maywood)2 confirmed rings
    • Ray Nitschke — 2× Super Bowl champion (Green Bay Packers — first two Super Bowls). (Wikipedia)
  5. Mount Carmel (Chicago)1 confirmed ring
    • Simeon Rice — 1× Super Bowl champion (Tampa Bay Buccaneers: XXXVII). (Wikipedia)

Notes & caveats

  • This is a best-effort, sourced tally of confirmed Super Bowl wins (rings) by alumni and attributes rings to the high school each player attended in their bios. Each school’s total equals the sum of its listed alumni’s ring counts.
  • There may be additional Illinois high schools with ring-winning alumni not yet captured here; some older or less-documented players can be missed by straightforward searches.
  • If you want a complete sweep (every Illinois high-school alumnus with at least one Super Bowl ring, with sources and a downloadable spreadsheet), I can run a full extraction and produce a CSV/XLSX with names, schools, teams, Super Bowl numbers, years, and citations. Want me to do that?

You really need to fact check AI or stop using it. Thayer, Moorehead, and Fencik were on the '85 Bears and went to JCA, Evanston, and Barrington. Alstott won one. Just last year Jake Elliot from the Eagles. Kelvin Hayden had the pick 6 against the Bears and went to Hubbard. Rashard Mendenhall has a win with the Steelers and went to Niles West. Howard Griffith from MC has 2 wins with the Broncos.

You're so hot and bothered by AI. I'm not posting it as the end all be all. It's a starting point, that's why I mention it's from AI.

I love AI and use it daily. All the players I listed came from AI. There were some I left out that also weren't on your list that I wasn't 100% sure on and didn't feel like fact checking, like Preston Pearson who played in 5 and won 2 who went to Freeport.

Sure seems like you meant it to be a complete list.

The "Done" part was a straight copy from Chat's response. You really should have fact-checked that before responding.

I do appreciate that you skipped over this part though:

Skipped over it because those weren't your words, just part of your copy and paste.

Granite City's Hall of Fame linebacker Kevin Greene never won a Super Bowl as a player, appearing in Super Bowl XXX with the Pittsburgh Steelers. However, he earned a Super Bowl ring as the outside linebackers coach for the Green Bay Packers in Super Bowl XLV (2011).

I played HS ball with Jeff Zgonina listed above (Carmel Catholic), and subsequently followed his college and NFL career.

When he was with the Steelers I absolutely loved watching their LB’s (includes Kevin Greene also listed above).

Kevin Greene (LOLB)
Greg Lloyd (ROLB)
Levon Kirkland (ILB)
Chad Brown (ILB)

A great LB crew!
