Chandler’s confidence

The knock on Collin last year was that he was too tentative. I’d still like to see him drive the ball more, but he’s now shooting 40% from 3 on the year. More impressive to me than the consistency, though, is the amount of ballsy shots he takes. Not bad shots, just supremely confident ones, often in crunch time. He has become an absolute killer. It’s been fun to watch and I couldn’t be happier for him.

Mid season he went into a “Slump” if you want to call it that but it was due to lack of confidence. He went 5-6 games where he caught but didn’t shoot. He seems to have his confidence back and with a little swagger on top and I’m glad to see it. If he can learn not to drove into heavy traffic because that’s just not his game he will be a stud next year IMO. He can drive one on one if he beats his man and finish or finish over people, but when he drives into a clogged lane it rarely ends well. I’m proud of the young man.

Chandler needs to develop a mid range floater and that step back 8 ft from the rim or some more plays like that to make himself a threat in the paint. I think he could become money on that mid range. He gets a good matchup on size and he can back his man down. Once he becomes that type of scorer along with the 3 point accuracy he will be all American level next season.

Would love to see him develop that little floater that Antonio Reeves had. Man, that was so smooth to watch. Poetry. Reeves really gets overlooked.

I'll be honest...I still don't see Chandler as a UK type player. On Cal's good teams, he would be a 9th or 10th man if we really needed shooting.
I know he's putting together a nice stretch, but when I think of the Pope era I think of Chandler and to me thats a middle of the road type SEC team/player.

I just hope we get to watch him and Pope mature into #9 🥳
I won’t lie, Mark and Kentucky hanging the 9th banner with a final four MVP from Collin during Calipari’s retirement season would be….

can see cal now, doing the halftime show at the final four after getting knocked out second round for his final game of his career…wearing a UK sweater.

You must have only been around during Cal's time. I think Chandler is a throwback to a lot of old school KY teams. I mean, I can't be the only one who sees a little of that kid from Owensboro that wore #3. Not as good, but some of his game.

Exactly. I echoed this in the other threads. He's confident from the outside now and starting to get more confidence driving the ball now where we was tentative before. But his last piece of confidence fix is getting comfortable pulling up in the lane and scoring. Most of the time he drives right through that area without even looking at the rim. He's so strong and quick he can get in there anytime he wants and now that he's becoming a threat to get to the basket this mid range will be open to him even more. He develops that soft jumper or floater and he's a legit 3 level scorer.

With Cal I agree. He wouldn’t get a chance.
Collin to me is reminiscent of John Pelphfrey. Wouldn’t have played under Sutton if we had no ncaa problems but under Pitino he got playing time and evolved into a damn good clutch player out of necessity.
Collin has more athletic ability than John but they both blossomed with playing time. John was a stone cold killer on the court. Shoot pass hustle. High bball iq. Leader. Collin got away to go to get that part but he’s on his way. Credit to CMP for recognizing it.

If Chandler can be Saunders we will have an all American piece. If he’s a more athletic Saunders then we have the player of the year lol
He’s already more athletic than Saunders. I don’t think that’s even debatable. Saunders is more experienced, he’s older and stronger at the moment and plays every second like it’s his last, he’s great because of his effort as much as talent. Chandler is close and has this coming off season to work hard and get that man strength. lol. While I think there’s some similarities, Chandler has a chance to be the better player when it all said and done in my opinion. It’s going to be all about what he wants and if he brings that same energy and passion, he can be great. That could be special to watch as a Cat fan.

You're kidding right? He's shooting 40% from 3, 86% from the FT line, is second on the team in steals....He's an above average player on an above average team in an above average league. There are tons of high D1 teams that would LOVE to have CC on their squad. Get a clue.

Would be funny

One thing is certain. Calipari probably won’t step foot in Fayetteville when he’s done finishing the back end of that contract. Its for a paycheck because UK said no and then Ohio State said no thanks lol. Regional poverty program like Arkansas took whatever they could get, even if it’s a washed former UK coach who retired 5 years earlier lol.

Cal could give a sht about Arkansas lol. Legacy always will be UK. Arkansas makes his whole brand look like sht.

He also seems to avoid contact when driving. Guy is a great FT shooter, so he needs to try and go through contact and force a foul. But I agree with what folks are saying. He’s never the “star” but has turned into an incredibly valuable part of the team, and on the scoring end he may be our most important guy outside of Oweh.

He is better than that. The 2014-15 squad was a great team, he is easily the 7th man on that team. 6th or 7th man on the 09-10 teams. He starts on a lot of Cal teams

I think he's been driving the ball more this year, he gets cutoff pretty fast though & has to make a quick decision, he got cutoff against Arkansas & decided to shoot the fall away mid range & canned it, that shot was big late.

Saunders comes off those curl screens from the top of the key ready to shoot the same way Padgett & Shephard did, Chandler is more of a catch & shoot guy right now imo. When he starts shooting from the curl screens he'll be even more deadly. You're 100% right, he's more athletic than Saunders right now.

Wow.
Most fans, the majority of media, and 3-4 teams he’s had a big hand in beating disagree with you.

LMAO WOOF! Cal also didn’t start Reed, Dilly, Ulis and/or Booker. So there’s that. Oh, and SGA for awhile.

The defense has to guard him out to about 27 or 28 feet. Talk about opening things up. If he develops a little floater from 7 to 8 feet he will be unstoppable.

Antonio Reeves developed one for his senior year and it made him unguardable when paired with his lightning quick release threat from 30 feet out. Collin learns the floater, it opens up his options to fake it and drive to the hole for a dunk. That should be the first and second thing he works on in the off season followed by more point guard skills.

Chandler is playing with the type of confidence you need to win big games. He wants the ball, is willing to take risks, and seems to really make smart decisions. Fun watching him grow.

OU coach made the point to say how hard it is to sprint the baseline catch, turn, and shoot from the corner. Some great pros (Allen as example) could do that, but that is a difficult skill. Chandler also has a physicalness on his drives that is starting to remind me of Keith Bogans. Let’s say he has not reached his ceiling. That is exciting.
