Immaculata High School in SOMMERVILLE has just hired Dallas Whitaker as their new Head Coach, replacing long time coach Mike Colombo. They also hired former NJ Devils/ Prudential Center owner Jeff Vanderbeek as their new Head””Program Director.” Don’t know if this means football assistant, athletics assistant, or Football GM type positions are now in HS FB, if it’s not already a thing.

Whatever it is, this may be a new, evolution type position for HS FB in NJ. But it is definitely a great hire for Immaculata as this should move them towards the St Peters/ Seton Hall/ Donavon Catholic level and away from the Hudson Catholic/ Morris Catholics of the state.

Isn’t Immaculata in Somerville?

Vanderbeek has been very involved with Somerville football for years. They just moved across town from public to private. Watch out he will spend to get the best players.

Immaculata’s running back led the state in touchdowns, 1500 yards rushing. Couldn’t get a D1 offer. Is their schedule the bad?

Both coach Whit and Vanderbeek have been gone from the Ville for quite a few years. My son played there when the two of them were part of the leaders that brought Somerville FB back from obscurity. ‘Beek brought coach Whit and a few others over from Delval to lead Somerville My sons sophmore season. While my son was a freshman and sophmore the team won a total of zero varsity games, losing a consolation game to Delran in the soph year. They beat North Plainfield in a cold rainy game his Junior year, lost to Wall in a consolation game. Senior year, Whits first full season they were crazy regular season 10-0 scoring 30+ points a game and the D not playing much in the second half of any game. They went 10-1 losing to Rumson in a heart breaker semi final.
Whit can coach, is very innovative and the kids love him. ‘Beek wanted to be involved with Immaculata, they did not want him he went to Somerville. He will be a HUGE HUGE supporter of that program. With both coaches Whit and Beek, that program will be in great shape and run as good as any program in the state. Great people who care about the kids first and foremost.

My only question. Who will be their DC?
