How good was he at NU? I am not really old enough to remember him but was he like a freak on field or did his NFL career end up being a lot more amazing than his time at NU?

He was great! Unfortunately he did have some issues with fumbling early in his time here. But he was a very effective runner for us. He was eventually a bit eclipsed by Rozier in his last year with us. I think Osborne even experimented a bit with having Rozier at I back and Craig at fullback.

One of my all-time favorites. Hard to believe we had Craig, Rathman, and Rozier on the same team.

Still breaks my heart that we could have and should have won three titles in a row from 81 - 83. Should have won at least two in those years.

Anyway… I am very happy for Craig. He and Turner Gill were my two faves from this era.

Roger Craig was awesome! I hate the Niners, but I love the Huskers. I agree with @Scoop123 that TO should have gotten his first in the early 80's. Those battles with OU. Of course, you didn't know that Craig was that good of a receiver because NU didn't throw much back then.

Turner Gill did not play against Clemson (injury). Had he played we would have won. In 82 we should have won it all. Refs robbed us at PSU. In 83 we would have beaten Miami on a neutral field. Could have won 3 straight nattys. But that is football…

Great praise from Ronnie Lott. He was a true killer at Safety. He would have been fined or suspended every game in today's pvssy NFL.

Craig at fullback was more than an experiment. It put our two most explosive runners on the field at the same time. In addition Craig was a willing and effective blocker. Craig’s team first attitude and versatility made him that much more attractive to the NFL. He was one of those guys Pelini would have just called “a good football player”. Craig could have played on either side of the ball.

From what I understand mark mauer had a bad rotator cuff and he couldn’t throw the ball more than 15 yards that’s another reason we lost to Clemson. And by the way several years later Clemson was put on probation for violations during there championship season

Was this the injury that Gill incurred in a game against Missouri? Cheap shot when he was the holder on an extra point or FG attempt if memory serves.

You are thinking of Jarvis Redwine, who was a blocker on the PAT team and took a cheap shot. Gill also got taken out of a game against Missouri on a cheap shot, but it was a late hit after he threw a pass. Didn't even draw a roughing the passer flag.

But as someone else noted, the injury that ended Gill's sophomore season was a calf injury - not the blow to the head against Mizzou. The Mizzou play was a year later.
