We haven’t been close to a tourney in two years, Collins botched the portal and more importantly, arguably, is he’s lost the identity of his program - toughness. This team is soft as Charmin.

Talk to your big shot $100K donor with the direct line to Jackson!

We have to better in the portal. The only two transfers that were impact players were Langborg and Leach.

The Page thing is ambiguous for me. He can be a scoring machine and has the glamour defensive abilities - he completely shut down some drives to the rim tonight. With a talent like that, it seems there should be/have been some way to keep him on the floor, maximize his value and cover for the weaknesses. I think the real failure was not recruiting a replacement for Nicholson, not Page's shortcomings.

Agreed. I think Page can be most successful as a big 4 rather than a 5.

He’s a low energy player. Thats why he’s never going to reach his potential. He clearly doesn’t put in the work.

My guy is determined to win weakest poster of the year. True MVP effort is admirable this early in the year, but place yourself, it’s only February.

Jury is still out for this year. Difference was that they were Srs while this years group are all younger. We are starting 4 new guys and 3 are frosh. Hard to integrate that many at one time in a system like ours

It has nothing to do with a system like ours and everything to do with the teams our league is filled with are all 22 year old veterans and euro pros. If you’re 19 and playing in the Big Ten you better be an elite type talent. Singleton is a great talent and I think West is gonna be really good, but they aren’t five star players.

We were headed back last year till the rash of injuries. This year they were trying to rebuild on the fly
I agree about last year but it’s a black and white thing ultimately. You make it or you don’t. We didn’t and we obviously aren’t this year.

It is a combination, Four new guys in the starting lineup regardless., The system is more complicated to integrate and not trying to do it with just 1 or two new guys but 4. Then add that now the starting lineup includes 3 true Frosh with a Soph transfer and you have the physical (and mental)maturity issues as well

For the love of Pete can we stop with the “portal bust” nonsense. All three have another year of eligibility left (two for Green), and all three have shown at least as much good as bad.

Reid can score, and can create quick offense with his burst. He has improved his on ball defense. He has to fix some of the decision making gaffes and I believe with offseason work he will. He can’t fix his size, but as I said on another post if he was 6’4” he wouldn’t have been on our radar.

Page has an incredible offensive skillset and could be the best passing front court player in the BIG if he can find how to bring the same intensity and energy every game and every possession. I’m tired of seeing his effort questioned because that is bollocks if you watch the games. Question his footwork or anticipation or awareness all day, but the guy is working. I think most of us are bummed because the ability to be 20-10-5 is there and he cannot reach it. Hopefully our staff are the ones to unlock him.

Green has clearly improved his strength and his d is light years better than where he began. Shots will fall for him. How his dunk that was “blocked” last night wasn’t a foul, I will never know, but seeing him attack with dark intentions was glorious. The shots are going to fall for this guy and he will open up the middle. The ability again is obviously there.

Zero chance Reid and Page are on the team next year

Collins's seat will not be hot next year. 2024-25 could have been a tournament year without all the injuries, and while we're clearly not a tournament team this year there are still a lot of games left and other potential postseason games to be played. But even if this year doesn't get better, Collins has more than earned a down year or two. If we have another bad year in 2026-27, then I do think his seat will be heating up heading into 2027-28, but that's a long way off and there's no point speculating.

If his seat isn’t as least warm next season we are still “the same old Northwestern” and I thought the whole reason to get Jackson was to give us legitimacy and accountability we didn’t have with Gragg?

I guess it depends what "warm" means. If we completely bottom out, sure, anything is possible at that point. I don't know Jackson, and I don't know what his relationship with Collins is like, so that could also be a factor. But I don't think it's "same old Northwestern" to think we should give the guy who brought us 100% of our NCAA appearances a bit of extra rope.

Did Baz = Nobel 2026 get another ban? It’s 9:30 on Monday and he hasn’t started a new thread about Page and Reid

Dear God this board is so soft. But in 2019-2020 we had some apathy bc we made one tourney and it felt a bit flukey. We now know it isn’t and we can make B2B tourneys! Collins has lost the program though with this year’s team. Really sad to see.

Tell it to your big shot $100k+ donor that’s buddies with Jackson! Maybe he’ll tell you what the average ACT is on the team for a bonus.

I'm not censoring you locking the other thread, but we just really don't need half the front page to be new threads about how awful the team is.
