A year ago Chris missed the cut in the Sony. He played terrible in the early part of the season. He missed 8 cuts in his first 12 tournaments. He steady the ship in late spring and everything changed with the Scottish Open win and a top 3rd place in The Open.
He starts this season off with a bang. It's going to be a great year for all the fans of Chris!

Congrats to Chris! Nice win.

Last year I switched to his method of putting heel up. My distance control is so much better. Can’t say I use for short putts but was a nice tip I picked up based on the announcers pointing that out.

Announcers commented on Chris’ wins. They’ve been achieved on various types of courses. Today’s course called for accuracy. Distance control and precise wedge play. Scottish open was a drivers paradise. Because it was wide open. They said keep an eye on Chris because he can win anywhere.
He has won on courses that are right by the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans and North Sea. It's the Jersey Shore guy in him.;)

The coverage was not great. Maybe Chris was hitting it too far for their cameras to track. Serval of his tee shots looked like it hit trees only to be found 50 yds up and dead center in the fairway.

You really need the thank Isao Aoki as he became the first guy to show off his unique putting style on the PGA Tour. He made it famous during the 1980 US Open, playing alongside Jack Nicklaus for all 4 rounds! Isao finished second.
Ironically, his only PGA victory occurred at the same golf course that Chris just won at, Waialae Country Club. In 1983 Isao didn't need his famous putting setup on the last hole by making an eagle from the rough on the last hole of the tournament.

I was there at the '80 Open. Followed Aoki and Jack their back 9 on Saturday. Followed Arnie who had the 1st tee time, then Trevino for a while, then Jack and Aoki.

I was there Sunday. Got there so early that Arnold's caddie almost hit us cutting through the players parking lot which was near the putting green near the first tee. We had no clue who was in the car until Arnold opened the passenger door and step out. I ended up picking his driver he was going to use that last round, my friend carried his bag to the range as the caddy went inside to check in. Looong day. Got a great spot behind 18 so we saw Jack tee off behind us and stayed there all the way to the end. Awesome experience for a 19 year old!

18 year old Blades Brown, who plays on the Korn Ferry Tour, shot 60 after missing what looked like a 6' for a 59 on his 18th hole yesterday.

He goes into today's 3rd Round tied for 1st with Scottie Scheffler (-17).

Patrick Reed has left LIV. Will return to Tour in '27. Interesting but not nearly as important as Brooks.

Gotterup, paired with Keegan Bradley and Adam Scott, plays the North Course tomorrow.

I read an article from Yahoo sports that says he can return in August and play the fall events. Not a fan but the tour needs bad guys as well.

Yeah but I understood provisionally whatever that means. He's a full member in '27.

Brooks Koepka made his return on the North, shooting a 1 over 73. It was his 1st tourney round in 14 weeks and admitted to being rusty. He said the crowd was nice and appreciated it.

Today a NJ guy had the lead for some time only it wasn't Gotterup. Short Hills' Max Greyserman was 9 under playing 18, His bogey on the last dropped him to 2nd at -8. Then Justin Rose went on a Birdie streak finishing with a 10 Under 62. Both played the easier North Course as did Chris Gotterup who shot 4 Under 68, good for a 17 way tie for 23rd. He will play the South Course which played 3 strokes tougher today.

Chris led the field in Driving, averaging 343.8 yds but was 68th in Accuracy (50%). He was 13th in GIR but 116th in putting

On the 619 yard Par 5 13th Chris Gotterup hit his Drive 330 yds in the Fairway. He went with Driver off the deck, hitting it 289 yds, just missing the pin by 2-3 inches as it rolled past, leaving him a 1 foor Eagle putt which he sank. He's 3 Under for the round and 9 Under for the tourney, currently T13 at what has become Justin Rose and everyone else.

Watched it from a few feet away. Hit him with a “go Rutgers” after 14, he nodded, then threw my son a ball after 15. Great day all around here, quite the scene

Chris enters the final T20 at -8. There's around 30 players between -6 and -10. He played well yesterday other than his putts just weren't falling (68th). It happens.

He's 1st in Driving Distance and for his length, a very good 18th in Accuracy.

Justin Rose continues to hold a large lead. At -21 he's 1 stroke off the tourney record held by Tiger Woods. Last year's winner shot -8.

So Rose broke Tiger's tourney record by a stroke (-23). Wasn't as sharp as he was the 1st 3 rounds but didn't need to be.

Chris finished T18 after a 3 Under 69. Was -3 after 9, got to 4 Under but then started spraying the ball, Seemed to find a number of traps, 2 resulted in bogeys, In all he had 6 Birdies, 3 Bogeys, and 9 Pars. Hey, after 3 events he's still 1st in the FedEx Cup.:)

On to the Zoo that is Waste Management.

You certainly had gorgeous weather at the tournament all 4 days! Very good tournament. Rose was great. He was playing his best ever after having big issues last year!

Rose sure has seen the highest high's and lowest low's during his long career.

Good field coming up this week with 11 of the Top 20 in the OWGR including Scheffler, Schauffele, Matsuyama, Spieth, Spaun, English, and Chris G.

I'll be keeping an eye on the RU Men's team down in Puerto Rico Sun-Tue. With 6 events to go, they are in the way too early NCAA Tourney conversation. Currently ranked #62 it could go either way. Would be 1st time since 2005.

When the colleges folks got into the act at the Waste Management I wasn't all that happy about it but a few short years later I began to love this tournament especially the Stadium around it. In the beginning it was just a bunch of college folk partying on the slight Hills around the hole. Now the seat 20,000+ in the temporary stadium. Some golf tournaments don't even get 20k on the entire course in a day. Their attendance numbers are mind numbing! And what makes it great is that the player who choose to play have bought into this mad house, partying crowd. Add in it's a great lead in to the Super Bowl. So much better than 100s of pregame shows this week!

Should be a great week here in the Valley for Waste Management. Will be there Wednesday, Saturday & Sunday.

Look for real low scores as temps will be 75-80 and conditions are going to be perfect.

Pretty cool. I was glued to my TV on Saturday and Sunday (they didn't show the first 2 rounds back then as you know) watching that great battle. Was an Arnie fan as a kid, but started rooting for Jack by the mid-70s when Arnie fell off.

Just checked the pairings for the Thu and Fri rounds.

Gotterup is playing with 2 guys I think I've heard of named Scottie Scheffler and Jordan Spieth.

Nice crowd Chris is hanging with these days.

Never heard of those guys...

Have played the stadium course twice, most recently 2 years ago. If it weren't for the grandstands, its really just a "nicely maintained" course. There really is nothing spectacular or memorable about it without the stands. Hole 16 is really just an average par 3.

Agreed. You can say that about most of the TPC courses. Sawgrass outside of 17 is a nice course but not a must play course.

15 and 17 are much better holes, both with big risk/reward factors. The other par 3 on the back nine, I think #12, is such a better hole especially the way they cut more water into play.

Played it a couple of years ago and thought it sucked. Looks much different without the grandstands. I didn't even realize we were on the famous par 3 until after we played it, and I've been in a box for a day watching the action go down.

It's a mid desert golf course at best. Nothing special at all.

Same exact experience. Very forgettable course. And the stadium par 3 is a throw away hole without the grandstand.

What were ya drinking? Is it true they throw you out if your BAC isn't at least .12?

I imagine the difficulty with 16 is knowing the crowd is going to ride you mercilessly if you screw up.

@WhiteBus

Do you remember last summer talking about Gotterup's issues approaching the Green and how it was holding him back

During the preshow Chamblee and crew were talking about how that was a big problem in '25. Said he was something like #140 on Tour and now it looks like he's greatly improved.

You want to ring up the GC and tell em we're available for the right price?
