Team score 22 to 0.
Ryder loses in overtime giving up a reversal with a few seconds left after an injury when the score was 1 to 1. I had never heard of Fox but Ryder has no offense and loses again. He was a silver medalist in 20 and unders Worlds. Our lack of development at 184 and 197 is concerning. These are Taylor's weights. Merrill won 2 to 0 against a guy who isn't very good. Strong ride but no takedowns again.

Doucet gets a pin at the end of the match, he tried to cradle but didn't get his hands locked but still pinned his opponent. He got an escape and a couple of stalling points. In the 3rd period he got a nice duck under and around before letting his opponent go and then the pin. We won 34 to 3. A wipe out but Ryder seems lost. I wonder how he beats Thompson. Merrill can All American but he will not beat the top guys without a takedown. Also with how he is wrestling he can lose to most anyone like his match with Iowa at national duals where he was ahead late in the 3rd period but gave up a takedown. Also Ryder's shoulder is a concern.

I think we know when Hell week was held. We were pretty lethargic in most matches and a step slow. The ref could have stall called every uni wrestler as most were in reverse during the matches and they really twisted knees to get out of takedown danger. I thought tonight was Swiderski’s best match this year and I don’t know how Jax and Vega got out of good takedown attempts and turned them into points.

Felt like a good Iowa City night walking out of GIA!! 🥶🥶🥶

Was in the house at my usual post to see the abomination of Northern Iowa beating the Cowboys on the home mats recently — there were far fewer people there — which made this mudholing particularly satisfying.

Happen to the see the faces of the Northen Iowa Fans just a few seconds before Dee pulled a rabbit 🐰 out of his hat, only to see them get their hearts ripped out. Again, to great satisfaction. Especially as it seemed Dee was cooked. Important to note, he didn’t do that against a chump. Downey is no slouch.

No, he’s not.

But if Dee can go do that (we’ve seen him do it multiple times) with 11 seconds left…why is he constantly waiting for 11 seconds left?

Exactly my thought. I think irritated is a good word for how I felt the first 6:50 of that match. Kudos to him for getting the win and what a great move but if that’s how he is gonna wrestle he is gonna get caught.

He needs to get some stuff cleaned up, or it’s going to cost him.

It all starts with his prematch routine. It’s like he can’t figure out who he wants to be/what he wants to do. Do I jump up and down like Hardell? Do I roll like Daton? He’s got a lot of bottled up energy that he needs to focus. Some aspects aren’t coming naturally. That said, sky is the limit talent and he’s winning.

My (almost) Groundhog Day Assessment: I see 8 AAs, 2 maybe 3 finalists.

If you had a chip to place on one Individual National Champion from this group, I’m putting mine on 141.

My view from Sec 203, Row 8 seat 14. Same view for the last 30 yearsish.....we looked solid against a solid but not great UNI team. Schwab is from Iowa. Still possesses that Iowa style and it shows in his wrestlers. Outside of Keck, who i am so glad is gone, they aren't super offensive but they are hard to score on. Strong in position and heavy on hands and head, Waiting for our mistakes which luckily there weren't too many. I thought we were in control in most matches outside of Lockett. He pulled it out obviously but man that might catch him. Wish he would stay off the knees and just go go go. Even in matches he is winning handily he slowly gets back to center, He takes his time getting to center to start the match. But he does win and he has amazing talent so im not trying to be too harsh on him. Just want to see a little more aggressiveness from him and Merrill and Ryder.

DT seemed irritated with Spratley, Dee, Merrill, and Doucet. I am not sure if this was the hell week that we talk about. I thought we largely looked pretty tough, but I never could figure out when it was last year either. I thought the worst we looked last year was at Big XIIs.

Ryder's match was very disappointing. I will not say more than that.

My final thought: I need more pin confetti. I could fart a bigger blast than what we currently get. If we are going to do it, we need to do it right. I want to be showered with so much confetti that I can't see the person next to me.

An injury might force the issue, it seems like its time for someone else to get a crack at 184.

Agree Dee needs to fire sooner and more often. I don’t mind the head games. Ryder is a mystery, really powerful and nasty to grapple with but he’s lacking something to finish… leverage? Angles?

Doucet channeling his inner Pindrickson was awesome. Swid looked great all match too.

I think Ryder is out for at least a few weeks even best case. Shoulders are kinda important for wrestling. If BT is healthy and near weight, ISU (and maybe the rest of the season?) is a great opportunity to make himself a LOT of money either in Stillwater or elsewhere.

How can Sprat not be at least a potential finalist? He's a returning finalist.

Likely a stronger field than last year, he’s already lost to Peterson, and he has a real problem with Robinson’s length. Could he get there? Sure. Is it a lock or guarantee? Far from it. Draw will have a lot to do with it - which you can say for everyone.

If we are loosening up potential finalists candidates, you’d have to throw Robideau in there as well.

Finally getting a chance to see a home match. Taking my daughter for her first match. Is it better to get tickets on secondary market or through school? Thought I heard it was close to sell out
Sets from school will most likely be GA so depends on when you go in. Secondary market you can pick your seat. Beautiful weather expected.
