NITYou may be happy (or less touchy) to know we did win one of the titles this year. Can't remember the category. Happened last week.

Exactly!!!we could win a natty in FB and Kentucky would still be a basketball school
It's own profit center. Yep. Not a lot of programs can say that, eitherYou’re correct but UK is one of only few basketball schools in America that’s self sufficient.
I guess "true basketball school" would apply lolSt.John's, Creighton, Marquette, etc say hello.
their bball team is rolling now tooI wonder if Indiana fans think they are still a BB school?
Our status as a "basketball school" is not fleeting. It's more than just stats, its the culture and identity. Even if it was stats, we are still at the top in most pertinent stats. We have won a title with 5 different coaches and that's more than any other program. That's an incredible stat that may never be topped.Hey, I'm hanging on to this as well. But this argument is becoming more and more fleeting. Our biggest claim really is our winning percentage, in my opinion. It's what says that if we paly in a game, we typically win. But I'm not sure you will find many outside of our fanbase that look at UK basketball in that light. Thank God for Pitino and his "camelot" reference tweets from time to time helping us stay relevant in that regard.
I think Duke, Kansas, maybe even UConn could now claim the most "prestigious" basketball program in the game, all having won titles more recently than UK. Outside of our fanbase, people just don't give a rip about a bunch of wins piled up 50-100 years ago. I hate it, but it's true. I even feel silly arguing with UL fans on their high-horses these days with citing our illustrious past. It's actually kind of pathetic.
We are and have been in a "what have you done for me lately" time period. It's time UK basketball actually did something lately, or our claims to greatness will continue to slip and slip.

Just to note, Indiana just won a football title and they are still a basketball school. That won't change overnight.
I thought we were a cheerleading school.Attention everyone knows we are tennis school!
Of course she sat in the front row. She badly needed the A you gave her.I thought we were a cheerleading school.
When I was in grad school at UK, I was teaching a Stats class, and in the front row was a blonde cheerleader, very cute/attractive but short girl. But her legs (she wore shorts every day) were like tree trunks of muscle, like she would have no problem snapping your neck while you were down there if you were doing it wrong.
I've always said why can't we be great at both? I'm glad there are fans of both sports who feel this way.Discussing/arguing whether one is a basketball school or football school has built into that debate that somehow the two sports are even close to equal relevance to the public as a whole. The distance between football (the higher relevance one) and men's hoops is about the same as the distance between men's hoops and any other college sport. I mean they are not even close. Net, to me, claiming one is a basketball school means you accept the overall athletic program is mediocre at best and that you enjoy that state of affairs.
