Who else plans on spending a weekend in the Windy City and attending this game? To my understanding, this mid-October date pretty much guarantees that the game will be in their new stadium.

I was worried that this was going to be on a date I wouldn't be able to accommodate. The game being in October is a best case scenario in my opinion. I'm looking forward to this trip and checking out this stadium.

I'm going to BC and Maryland this year. Thought about Northwestern but I'll save it for next time.

Most likely going too. We booked the Residence Inn Wilmette/Skokie, 4 miles from campus.

We are a definite for UMD and most likely BC. We wanted to go the the Illinois game this year and spend the weekend in Chicago. Could not make the trip. We are now talking about going to the NW game. If we go there will be four of us.

I'll most likely get to BC and hopefully Northwestern. If they keep it interesting in Sept I'll go to Maryland.

Did NW a few years ago...fun weekend in Chicago.

But the tailgate scene/environment....ehhhhh. It's like they dropped a stadium in Franklin Lakes.

An annoying thing with the hotels is that I'm finding some decent rates in the downtown area, but if you want the option to cancel, the price goes way up. So I'm holding off on booking accommodations until this summer, when there is less likely to be something to throw a monkey wrench in these plans.

I'm on the fence about renting a car. Uber may be more cost effective than renting/parking. Plus the mass transportation from downtown Chicago to Northwestern is easy-peasy.

I think Uber would be easier to be honest. much less hassle and as you say, probably most cost effective

We did the mass transit in Seattle, stayed a block from the local rail line that took us from airport to hotel and hotel to stadium. Will do this again if we go to Northwestern. A lot easier than driving, trying to find parking, etc.

If we're 4-2 I'll hop on a flight and go but at 3-3 (or God-forbdt 2-4) I'm not wasting my time. That stadium ain't going anywhere; neither is Chicago.

Doing this and BC this year. Had a blast @ BC a few years ago and super excited to get to Chicago. Would probably be 6-8 of us heading out.

I hear ya, Nuts. I was all in if it was our/their B1G opener in September. In late October when the weather can be quite chilly, attending the game is a "must go" only if we are 4-2.

What's the play here? Stay in Chicago and do public transportation to the game? Or stay closer to Evanston?

If you are staying two nights or less, you can consider staying near the Stadium. Otherwise, you want to be in Chicago.
