The revisionism with the twins is hilarious. Booker couldn't shoot during the NCAAT. And was getting abused on D against Wisconsin. You could maybe make an argument for Ulis. The shot clock violation and Cal calling for stall ball, lost that game.
No...Harrison jacking up bricks on three straight possessions at the end instead if getting the ball inside to KAT who was dominating, while Cal was on the side screaming "Throw it to KAT" is what got us beat. Cal's mistake was not putting in Ulis the first time he was ignored

If Pope was some random outsider, we hired from Ohio, or something. Everybody would be in agreement he isn't gonna cut it here. But because he's the "anti-Calipari". And played here 30 years ago, you got holdovers. It's kinda the same blue hair mentality that IU oldheads have. Clean cut IU boys, RMK style coach, doing things the right way with academics first, candy stripe paints forever, etc etc. I give @Monday Nitro's posts no serious mind. This guy openly said he supports whoever is UK's coach. During the 2023 season, he would post everytime Oats lost to Calipari, with "Calipari beat Oats with 2 pointers:". He was ardent that it didn't matter who started. It was about minutes. Before the covid year, he said Calipari was gonna dominate while Roy and K watched from their recliners. Now, he says he was way past his expiration date at UK. Hilarious.

there’s a group of 3 or 4 that, well, I’m not even sure they’re UK fans to be honest. I’ve never met one like that in person. We’re gonna do this different this time around. Everyone allowed them to pretend they weren’t screaming at everyone who wanted Calipari removed and calling them horrible names and riding the hell out of Cal until the last day. We change coaches and bam, like they never liked the guy in the first place. Now they’re doing it again with Pope. And when he’s cut loose, they’re going to pretend they agreed the entire time yet again.

Why is it so hard to just watch the product and call it what it is? Early on I fully supported Mark until it was crystal clear he can’t coach here. I’m sure you remember. What’s so hard about that? Protect the damn program.

You just made the Pope Detractors look away after they read that.
Not really, now days people are so decisive and facts don’t change their minds because they are emotionally driven. The middle of the road group like me is slim. Pope has not been great this year and I don’t think he is a good fit however I watch them every week hoping he proves me wrong and they win a championship.

People need to let go of comparing Pope to Cal. There is 0 comparison so far. One guy won a title and 4 final fours and 7 elite 8s. He stayed on way too long. The other guy has to get it going fast.

You can't win if you can't get the best, whether frosh or transfers or ideally a combination. This is also nit news Pope has recruiting issues.

The recruiting so far has been a big problem.

And it needs to be fixed YESTERDAY.

Otherwise, Pope has to go.

Zero reason for us to not have multiple first-round NBA dudes on our roster year-in and year-out.

$22 Million.

We could have spent $6-$7 million on AJ Dybansta, another $4 million on a guy like Caleb Wilson or Yaxel Lendeborg, and then STILL had $11-$12 million to fill out the rest of the roster with shooters and defenders.

Just embarrassing that this team isn't loaded with talent. And it pisses me off.

And looking at next year, that's Collins and Stokes, BOTH of which we led for, and BOTH of which we have now lost.

If Pope doesn't go out there and just CRUSH the portal this year with truly all-American level talents, he needs to go.

Sadly, I don't see him ever seriously recruiting that type of player again. I don't think he can handle the egos successfully. Why take a chance on high rated recruits or transfers when he can get mid major guys that will buy into everything he wants to do. I don't think this is the right path for UK but I can see Mark Pope using this philosophy going forward.

Right. I mean we all want him to do well and resurge this season, would be something if he managed to actually get these guys Ina. Final four.

At the same time, even if he could pull that off, it doesn’t look like he’ll be able to recruit. I was against the hire initially but then changed when I realized wait…it’s the NIL. We can buy him the players. I thought in the new era with his coaching ability, familiarity with the program etc his recruiting problems wouldn’t be a killer like it usually would be. I was wrong. Just because you can buy them still doesn’t mean they will play for you when the money is matched and other coaches are just more sought out.

We’ve done this long enough to know, recruiting is the lifeblood. It’s the oxygen. You can’t be here if you can’t do it. There’s no indication he can and we can’t sit around. And you can’t waste years flaming out and being average or worse waiting to see. Unfortunately that’s going to derail him early. Nothing we can do. Would love to see him turn that tide but don’t see it. Players and handlers have spoken.

He mentioned that in talking with recruits families, he feels that pope doesn't do the best job in building a relationship and seeing eye to eye with some of these families and players. Also mentioned how pope sometimes struggles with valuing players correctly in a monetary way.

It’s called the inability to relate. He cannot communicate with the demographics you have to thrive with. Pope doesn’t have it.

as i've said all along. the JMI situation probably isnt perfect and i could believe it will prevent some top 20-30 guys from coming here. but no one in the top 150 is interested in playing for pope/uk. that isnt a JMI issue.....

UK probably loses 7 more conference games. 1 SECT game. thats 14 on the year. then you go into next year having to having to roll the dice on the portal with 5-6 guys and hope it works better since you have zero big talent coming in from high school. i dont see how its not a double digit loss season next year if our core group are dudes already on the roster.

that would be 3 years in and not much to show for it and no real hope for the future. but sure....being patient should work out
Patience isn’t gonna fix pope. And patience for a sub par coach should never be at UK but Barney has done it 2 times.

Hope our recruiting improves. But also dont want to ever be in a situation again where Dejauan Wagner is playing ahead of Reed Shepherd or Quade Green is playing ahead of SGA, or the Twins are playing ahead of Ulis and Booker because promises have been made.
Both myths.
Reed played more than Wagner (3.1mpg more), Reed was 2nd in total minutes, 3rd in mpg on the team. Now you could then say "but Wagner did play more than Dillingham" which is true, however much of that was on RobD himself for often getting himself in foul trouble limiting his minutes.

SGA led the team in minutes, Green was 4th (8.1mpg less). That team also only had 3 guards (those 2 & Diallo) so all 3 were going to play. Over all of Cal's UK teams, only Wall, Knight, Ulis, Murray, & Maxey played more MPG than SGA.

The 14-15 was different, playing a 50/50 platoon the first 1/4 of the season. Yes the twins did play a little more than Ulis and Booker, the twins being 2nd & 3rd in MPG (25.8 & 25.5) while Ulis and Booker were 4th & 6th (24.5 & 21.5). Now the Wisconsin game, that's another story!

Recruiting is about social skills and the ability to market. I sort of get the impression (conjecture on my part) that Pope may be on the spectrum and may have a hard time relating to teenagers.
On top of that, outside of Kentucky fans knowing, Pope isn't a well known commodity in college basketball and I'd bet a lot of recruits couldn't tell you who coaches at Kentucky if you asked them. Sure, Kentucky is a brand name, but are you really going to take a chance on a coach who is an unknown commodity? If we start winning, recruiting may turn around. But right now without any recruits coming in we may be in a Indiana like program death spiral.

Its shocking that Pope can't sign any High School 5 stars being at UK and with millions of dollars to spend.
Yeah we have plenty of money and Pope should be crushing it on recruiting. He was the captain on a national champion and he had a good run in the NBA.

Not many other coaches can say that plus Hart had a nice run. We should be dominating on the recruiting/portal commitments. Is Pope's silly personality really killing these deals? Something is definitely off and acknowledging that reality doesn't make you a bad fan.

i think it is. when its time to close the deal he is talking about how "the journey", how "beautiful" it all is. we are here to "love one another and grow". its like a self love, hippy retreat.

all nice sentiments but who wants to play for that....

Sucks to hear, but the good news is, its 100% fixable. Either Pope got a dose of reality or someone will be in his ear about it: kids arent coming here for the legacy or because you (Pope) played here/in the pros. Youre gonna have to pony up, and likely bend the knee at times for these elite players. Sad thats the way it is, but thats the new era.

They got drafted to the NBA without being used? You lowlifes are always lying.
Guys get drafted on potential all the time. NBA teams got used to looking past Cals coaching ineptitude and seeing players true abilities. You ever considered anger management sessions?

In other words unlike Cal he won't make them promises he can't keep or promises to play certain players X number of minutes no matter how bad they play.
He definitely is not Cal, because he cannot sign anyone. Cal is running out of ink signing all-stars.

Not according to Pat Riley. While at the Miami Heat, he said he drafted Kentucky players because of the way they were coached and they came to the league ready.

What happened to all that fake Mark Fox love? The man was last seen going like 3-27 before Pope hired him and this board claimed he was some great basketball mind.
He’s a career loser. I have no idea why anyone would be excited about him. He called in a favor to get his job

Yeah when you look at elite Kentucky players and Duke players in the NBA, you see Cal’s influence with the numerous busts we have compared to Duke.

You frauds hate UK so much that you will come up with any lie or spew any ignorance to disparage us.
I love UK. Cals the best recruiter of all time. He’s also a below average bench coach and teacher. Thems the facts.

Duke has outrecruited us for nearly the last decade and our guys dominate their guys in the NBA UK hating clown. I love UK even though I’m negative about UK 90% of the time. You’re fake af and dumb to boot.
There are many treatment centers for people with your anger issues. Cal sucks.

All signs keep pointing to, Pope doesn't know what he's doing. But there's a part of our fanbase that wants to li

We were 38-0. And both Ulis and Booker played a ton. Shut up.
We were 38-1. The Harrison’s were average players and we had better on the bench. Mr Magoo could have won a title with that roster. Cal couldn’t.
