Wouldn’t surprise me if Lowe is our starting PG next year. He shouldn’t be- but he probably will be.
With no commitments, you would have to believe that Pope will try to bring back the entire roster(minus JQ) and just replace Oweh(Pate?) and Aberdeen in the portal.

pilgrim said we most likely wont pursue pate because of his high price tag
Pate is not eligible yet but I'd say there's enough money since you really don't have to replace JQ and Oweh's money is freed up.
Plus that's just a guess from Pilgrim.
If JP ever had any inside info directly from the staff, I'm sure it's been shut down since his public criticism of Pope.

This isn’t new information. Ever since people starting posting about JMI being the issue I’ve been saying it’s not them. Are they ideal? No, but the true issue is the sales pitch our staff gives. We are selling these recruits on our path for them at Kentucky. No one cares to listen but that’s the true reason.

I’m sure I’ll hear well how do you know. I know because I work with the same kids we aren’t getting to sign and others we recruited even in the early stages on a daily basis. It’s not speculation it’s fact that we miss because we have a bad pitch and recruits don’t see the picture the staff paints.

No way Hart is that tone deaf to recruits.
Probably say the same for Brooks.
If we have a bad pitch it has to be coming from the head man.

Hope our recruiting improves. But also dont want to ever be in a situation again where Dejauan Wagner is playing ahead of Reed Shepherd or Quade Green is playing ahead of SGA, or the Twins are playing ahead of Ulis and Booker because promises have been made.
Dejuan Wagner played for Memphis.

You just made the Pope Detractors look away after they read that.
The things he says may be true but he’s not close to John Scheyer on any level. That dude has lost one game this year. Has two conference titles, one final four, and is 89-22 for an .801 winning % in his first three years. It’s not even close. Pope has like 13-14 more losses in a season and a half less work.

There it is. As soon as someone disagrees with you, they're a troll. It has nothing to do with the fact that the current coach has zero recruits coming in, has no history of recruiting top talent from out-of-state, and had to overpay for the current rag tag of misfits in the transfer portal.

On Saturday, when Meleek Thomas and Darius Acuff both drop 20 on us, I'm not going to be saying "thank God we didn't promise those guys minutes."
Sadly that is the truth. I hope we win, but I’m pretty sure both those guys will have good games.

We can't afford to let a coach learn on the job. Uconn is coming. Duke is coming. Kansas is coming.

You mean the same UConn that beat Cal twice in the final four en route to 2 national titles? The same Duke that won 2 titles while Cal won 1? The same Kansas that won 2 titles while Cal won 1, and directly benefited from Cal’s Memphis team choking?

Look, I don’t disagree with you about needing a proven coach who can produce right away. I’m just saying, we had a proven coach in Cal and at the end of the day, he didn’t produce like he should have. He’s the reason those other schools are catching up. Mark Pope is just a guy who isn’t gonna stop the bleeding.

Unfortunately he seems immature and just says and writes what HE thinks is true. Never has named sources. All his speculations. Can’t fact check his content.
Kinda pompous.
Used to call it yellow journalism.
Don’t worry. If we lose tonight, him and the rest of the crybaby’s will be out thumping their bird chests and wearing their “I was right!” T-Shirts they made up in the basement. 🤣💩

You and RunninBichie can cry about it and rush to stomp out anything positive a poster says about Pope. It shows how intolerant you are of any opinion other than yours, but you are free to be petty, search out any positivity and stomp it out. Your Pope-detracting buddies are hiding like cowards lately, so it’s overtime for you two. You go gurls…..gushing over other coaches to push your anti-Pope “I’m right!!” agenda. What misery. 3rd grade stuff and I wont read anymore of your crybaby act going forward.
You just hate how facts ruin your argument. I’ve posted on here daily just like I always have. You have a serious obsession with Ritchie and Nate Oats.

Scheyer is so good that he coached circles around Pope and made a huge 2nd half comeback to beat him. He Pwned him in their only meeting…….oh wait.

You know you are making these claims just on a report from some stupid sports guy who speculates for a living and likes to stir the pot to get fools like you all fired up for nothing. You and I don't know what is true, Pilgram doesn't know what is true.
A stupid sports guy who “speculates”?

Uh, Pope is zero for the field (0-30 on HS 5*s alone), on every single one of his top targets!

That’s not the definition of “speculation”! That’s the cold hard facts, and it’s not going to change anytime soon.

I know this isnt a popular take in this thread but im willing to give him the benefit of the doubt with the health issues we have had. If we have a 100% butler and Robinson last year im confident we make the final four. Give us Lowe healthy for the season and JQ healthy from here on out and this season looks a lot different. Just a healthy lowe would be worth at least two more wins right now. Then we are ranked top 15 and we are talking about how good of a team we are shaping in to.

Also if he brings in Dink and lands one of Stokes, Holt, Collins then we are in pretty good shape heading in to next year.

But how is the pitch so bad though? Come play in a really fun spread out high possession offense under a coach that seems generally nice and positive on a huge stage in one of the best conferences with most games on national tv? Like how are they messing up the pitch? I genuinely don’t get it. After last year seeing our offense score in the 100s with everyone having a green light to shoot and guys like Alamanor saying they’ve never played for a coach that’s so nice and doesn’t yell like how was he not able to sign people?

as i've said all along. the JMI situation probably isnt perfect and i could believe it will prevent some top 20-30 guys from coming here. but no one in the top 150 is interested in playing for pope/uk. that isnt a JMI issue.....

UK probably loses 7 more conference games. 1 SECT game. thats 14 on the year. then you go into next year having to having to roll the dice on the portal with 5-6 guys and hope it works better since you have zero big talent coming in from high school. i dont see how its not a double digit loss season next year if our core group are dudes already on the roster.

that would be 3 years in and not much to show for it and no real hope for the future. but sure....being patient should work out

Bingo. Jmi deal is **** and makes things way tougher, but Pope was never landing those guys anyway.

1) hes a complete cornball. Yes i know us other goofy middle aged cornballs think its great because we can relate. However that absolutely does not fly with the kids he's trying to recruit. In fact had he not played here, most of us would've immediately been over his cringe inducing schtick.

2) top recruits do not want to play in a zoom offense. This is literally a mid major style offense focusing on back cuts, open jumpers, and creating angles for straight line downhill drives.

In truth, its a brilliant offense but it doesn't allow any player to work on nor showcase their skills for the nba. Eg: why on earth would a pg want to play here? The ball is out of their hands. Imo that's why pope completely changed our offense for Lowe and JJ but also why oweh and Aberdeen sucked in that 1-4 type look.

The sole exception is a stretch big. We should be THE destination school for any stretch big since they are literally the center piece of everything in this offense. Yet somehow we cant land them either, which is my only surprise in our recruiting failures.

This isnt getting better. In fact it will just get worse, especially after the jq fiasco. Pope never deserved this opportunity and never would've gotten it had he not played here and Mitch needed a yes man after Cal wrestled control away due to immense popularity.

It sucks but it is what it is. Everyone called it at the time. Then only some of us stuck to it after the massive sell job by ksr and others. I hoped it would work because he's such a great guy. However unless he really finds some magic and quick, we should move on or be forever stuck in a middling sec outcome plus sweet 16 ceiling.

I really don’t know what some are thinking. Kev probably isn’t being serious but I just don’t think some of these guys get this. You are going to lose position here. And we haven’t won in a long time. Pope was not brought in to learn on the job. He was brought in to fix Calipari’s issues and win and win big.

I’ve said this over and over and I don’t know why it even has to be said. He’s not producing well during the season and he. cannot. recruit. His reputation has taken massive hits and he’s been blown out of the water.

There’s no way to sustain it. He doesn’t have the history to sustain it.

Pope is done at UK. He was really only brought in because Barnhart wanted control and full access back to finish his UK tenure anyway. His 2 big targets were both 2 of the most religious coaches in the game. lol. I’m a Christian so not hating on those guys, but this is Kentucky basketball. So I don’t know what it’s going to take to wake people up but this was over when it started. We all love Pope, but not to the point where he’s allowed to sink the program. I’d remove him this year at the end of the season, but “he gets next year” is likely going to win out. And that’s a shame.

If Pope was some random outsider, we hired from Ohio, or something. Everybody would be in agreement he isn't gonna cut it here. But because he's the "anti-Calipari". And played here 30 years ago, you got holdovers. It's kinda the same blue hair mentality that IU oldheads have. Clean cut IU boys, RMK style coach, doing things the right way with academics first, candy stripe paints forever, etc etc. I give @Monday Nitro's posts no serious mind. This guy openly said he supports whoever is UK's coach. During the 2023 season, he would post everytime Oats lost to Calipari, with "Calipari beat Oats with 2 pointers:". He was ardent that it didn't matter who started. It was about minutes. Before the covid year, he said Calipari was gonna dominate while Roy and K watched from their recliners. Now, he says he was way past his expiration date at UK. Hilarious.

Or here’s another one…you’re just a wannabe coach who never had the chops to be one. All 3 can be true.
I certainly don’t have the “chops” to coach at this level. You’re not wrong about that. Not sure what one has to do with the other.

Knocking the twins is insane since they took us to TWO Final Fours!
