Former Niners QB John Brodie, 1970 NFL MVP, dies at age 90 — ESPN
John Brodie, who won the NFL MVP award in 1970 and later played on what is now the PGA Tour Champions, has died at age 90.
Far better than average. Also remember him well. Surly a better than average QB.
Didn't they shoot scenes from Dirty Harry at Kezar???I remember John Brodie well when I was a student at Berkeley and he was the Niners QB. (Steve Spurrier was his understudy for a while.) For most of that time, the Niners played at Kezar Stadium, located in Golden Gate Park not far from the Haight-Ashbury. I don't know if that location was one of the Niners' problems!
I can't remember. I do know that fans could bring their own alcohol to games there, and, as you would expect, there were lots of drunken fistfights and brawls. The bathroom facilities were, to say the least, primitive. San Francisco was not the wine-and-cheese city of today; fans were dockworkers or factory workers, often from the neighboring Richmond and Sunset districts, and they knew how to throw a punch.Didn't they shoot scenes from Dirty Harry at Kezar???
Yes they did-the scene where Dirty Harry shoots the villain in the leg while he’s standing at midfield.Didn't they shoot scenes from Dirty Harry at Kezar???
Met him at Montclair CC when he was playing in a Sr. PGA event.Remember him well and he was a quality successor to YA Title once Tittle was traded to the Giants .
Went on the PGA Senior tour in 1985 ( to 1998)
Cal has/had such a great QB history.I remember John Brodie well when I was a student at Berkeley and he was the Niners QB. (Steve Spurrier was his understudy for a while.) Brodie went to Stanford -- or, as Cal sports fans call it -- "Stanfurd."Cal has/had such a great QB history.
Should have explained myself better. I was referring to the fact that you were at Berkeley.Brodie went to Stanford -- or, as Cal sports fans call it -- "Stanfurd."
You're right that Cal has great QB history; it's a shame that hasn't been enough to produce a consistently winning program!Should have explained myself better. I was referring to the fact that you were at Berkeley.
