There’s a reason no recent ncaa player has scored 30 off the bench 4 times

When he started against SHU and turned it over 3 times in the first 2 minutes, were you glad he started that game?

What is his PPG average as a starter vs coming off the bench? The difference is stark.

He is playing a starter's amount of minutes and has been successful coming off the bench. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Should be fired Tuesday if he hands in starting lineup with Francis on the bench
It really doesn't matter if he plays and gets the major minutes in the game, minutes typical of a starter
He might establish some sort of record nationally this way

I doubt he is upset about it because he gets noticed this way

Falling in a hole to start the game when your best offensive player sits is lunacy. The Francis start at Seton Hall is not a good argument because he didn’t start his best ballhandler Davis either.

That game is NOT a game to bring up in direct or indirect defense of Pike or any of his decisions. It cannot be underscored enough how poorly that SHU game was coached and it had nothing at all to do with Tariq being a starter. If Pike had Tariq check in at the 16 minute mark of that game with same 4 players, the outcome would’ve been exactly the same.

Tariq isn’t a natural PG. That doesn’t mean he can’t be used in spots as a point and/or work to improve this (Geo and Caleb weren’t natural points either, but they became good enough ball handlers to get by with enough surrounding support).

One more time - Pike put Tariq on the floor to start that game with a line up that did not include our 5 best ball handlers - J Mike, Lino, Buchanan, Powers or Bryce Dortch (who I think is a pretty decent ball handler for a big). SHU has one of the best on ball defenders in the country. We put Tariq on the floor with NOBODY who can handle the ball when pressured at all. It was Ogbole, Grant, Zrno and Denis - not one player who could help him bring the ball over. And not only that - Pike allowed the same thing to happen 4 straight times with this line up. And none of them came up to even give him a screen. I still can’t get over it. It had nothing at all to do with Tariq not playing well as a starter though.

Tariq starting/coming off the bench is not the reason Rutgers for Rutgers struggles. In fact it seems to one of the few things working well for Pike this season - so not sure why people choose this to focus on as wanting to change.

It’s because they want to criticize Pike for everything - even though it doesn’t matter as much who starts as it is who gets minutes.
