Nah you gotta be more situational than that. You’re being too simplistic. It’s a team that’s struggled against pressure. Figure out your best close out 5. I’m sorry it doesn’t include HS. It’s situational not personal.
So Hannah can’t make top 5? Our best interior defender and 2nd leading rebounder in the league? lol.

Dude you’re not even arguing the point. Don’t coach br big 10 weekly awards. Coach situationally and what’s best for your team.

there are times when HS should NOt be on the floor.
The only time that I don't want Hannah on the floor is with a lead in a must foul situation, because of her struggles at the free throw line. Otherwise she's the best inside defender and second best scorer and rebounder on the team. You leave her in.

BTW, number 2 South Carolina is going down tonight to Oklahoma. Winning on the road against ranked opponents isn't easy.

I found a team that misses more layups than Iowa -- South Carolina.

That Chavez girl can play. I think she may reach the level of JuJu.

Maryland scoring

Q1-Q3 39 points

Q4 34 points

That’s just an inexcusable. Iowa went full prevent defense and got exposed on their lack of full court ball control.
This team needs to figure out how to put teams away. Maryland had ZERO business having a chance to win that game in OT. But they did. Just dumb luck we escaped with the W after dominating almost the entire game. I see just a lot of laziness, lazy defense, lazy passing, lazy free throws. No killer instinct. We can pretend this team might make some noise come tourney time but there's no way. They're going to get cooked by top-10 teams.

Nope. A Senior who has played as much as she has should be able to complete an inbounds pass and have the knowledge she doesn't need to just stand there...
It is not just a HS problem. This was a problem even when Bluder was coaching the team.

I can’t believe Maryland didn’t continue to press us. Their full court press was killing us and then they stopped in overtime.

Layla isn't the answer today

I'm not saying she should have gotten a lot of playing time, I'm just saying she should have gotten a few minutes especially with Ava in foul trouble.

Hell even if she fouled out in 90 seconds that's still a little bit of a break.

CC and Hannah both played 43 minutes tonight and looked gassed at the end of the fourth which is partially why Maryland came back. If Jan's going to ride with her starters in the closing stretch she should find a few minutes to give her under sized pg and small ball center a rest.

They couldn’t set up the press because they only made one bucket

The reason we fell apart because we stopped playing defense and let them score easy layups which then turn, let them set the press up, and that became a vicious cycle

whynot?

Staley obviously can’t coach!

What would you do to fix this?

I wish Layla belonged out there right now but she doesn't unfortunately. With respect to CC, she's a press breaker. Someone was asking why they didn't press more. She was why. They couldn't contain her.

Against full court pressure? No! You shouldn’t have more than 1 big. And her ft shooting concerns. Stop being sentimental.

So who do you want inbounding the ball?
Chit Chat is 5'4 and our quickest guard. Kylie, Addie, and Taylor S all make plenty of questionable passes every game.

Some times you screw up and let a big lead get away and lose, and you will learn from that, and sometimes you let a big lead get away and win and you will learn from that as well. I couldn't be more proud of the Hawkeye women tonight.

Why so negative? What's your forecast for March?
Because it's avoidable. Maryland being able to tie the game late was due to our players making lazy, dumb passes and missing FTs. Sometimes the other team is just going to outplay you late, I get that. That's not what happened tonight. We made lazy plays and lazy passes that put the ball in their hands and allowed them to take it in to OT. It was completely avoidable. That's the kind of stuff that's inexcusable. And it's habits like that that will get you bounced in March when it doesn't have to.

I thought they handled the press just fine with chit chat. It was in the half court where they didn't use their heads

You: Why so negative?
Me: Because it's avoidable.
You: What's your forecast for March?
Me: It's habits like that kind of laziness that will get us bounced early in March.

You ok?
You didn’t answer his question what you as a coach would do differently. Oh, tell them to not turn the ball over? Good job coach.

I asked you 2 simple questions.

1) How many turnovers did Maryland have at home tonight?

2) What's your forecast for March? Saying bad habits will get us bounced early isn't a forecast. What round do they make?

The first question you asked was "why so negative?"

Miss that one?

Lol.
