I sprained my ankle as a junior in high school. Made it up and down the court twice. By the time I got to the bench I have an ankle 3 times its normal size. Started practicing after about 2 weeks but it never healed. 50 years later it will dislocate and force me to drop to the ground and pop it back in place. Sooo should he let it heal or try to come back quickly? They’ll figure it out. Just depends on how badly the ligaments are torn.
I have sprained my right and left ankle. But mostly my right ankle, to the point of swelling up to the size of a grapefruit, five times skateboarding. It weakened up a little bit. Sprained it again when I was forty, same thing only difference is that it did not heal for a year and four months. Wish I would have had the doctors Frager has to help me heal. My physical therapy was making it down to Bodega's Alley and drinking and playing pool until I couldn't feel it anymore and then back again on the couch the next day. Those usually took 3 or 4 months to heal. I'm sure he'll be fine.

You've been quite negative lately. This team is more than just one player. They'll be fine. It's good news.
I’m realistic. People get too far out on the skis one way or another. Frager IMO is the most talented guy on the team. I’ve played and watched a lot of basketball over the past 60 years. This team is very good but one of its strengths is having two guys who are outstanding shooters. When either Pryce or Frager are having an off night, usually the other picks up the slack.

Mast has been a little inconsistent shooting this year. Lawrence had to carry us one game to get a W in a tight one. Losing Frager IMO would drop us down a notch in the B1G similar to what an injury to Mast would mean. I think Frager is that important.

I used to be obsessed with water skiing. I sprained my left ankle so much playing hoops over the years that when I water skied, I used to wear one of those lace up ankle braces on that ankle so I could get more support

Do we know if the ligaments are torn?

a Grade 1 ankle sprain involves only stretching the ligament fibers, causing mild pain and swelling but no instability, while tears only occur in more severe Grade 2 (partial tear) and Grade 3 (complete tear) sprains. So, a "sprain" is a spectrum, from just stretching (no tear) to complete rupture (tear).

What do you think happens when you “stretch” a ligament?

Stretching a ligament or muscle is not the same as a tear, although they are part of a continuum of injury.
Semantics. When you stretch a relatively inelastic ligament such as those in your lower ankle or foot you’re tearing things at a cellular level. It wouldn’t swell if you didn’t damage cells.

Not semantics at all. Not all ankle sprains result in a torn ligament. Now if you want to argue that more than likely he has a grade 2 or grade 3 then you would be correct. So back to my original comment...do we know if he has a torn ligament?

torn ligament is not the same thing as damaged cells, but rather a macroscopic injury caused by microscopic damage to tissue structure. A torn ligament represents a structural failure of collagen fibers, while "damaged cells" refers to the cellular response occurring at the molecular level within that torn tissue.

I didn’t say “torn ligament”. I said tear at a cellular level. Get past Wikipedia and go back to your days looking in to a microscope IF you ever have. You don’t get swelling if you don’t damage cells or tissues.

You said....They’ll figure it out. Just depends on how badly the ligaments are torn. Nice burn on the Wikipedia comment....like I've said before you dont always need to act like you're the smartest guy in the room...you can act better.

I probably am the smartest guy in the room though…🤔🤣

Edit. Not trying to be a jerk. It’s just that in medicine there isn’t a bold black line in some cases separating these deals. One has to consider how an injury is being evaluated and who is doing it. Is it a radiologist via ultrasound or mri? Is it a pathologist? Then there’s sometimes disagreement from one clinician to another. Sprain grades are an attempt to categorize numerically an injury with somewhat subjective criteria. I take sprain grades with a grain of salt. The line is a little fuzzy.

Kent Pevalka shared his reference sheet for the Michigan game on X and showed Frager as out on his writing. Not sure I'd take too much into that as it looks like he whites things out pretty often.

Game time decision? I thought they amputated his leg civil war style based on some reactions on here. Figured he may never walk right again. What a miracle.
This injury was/is way more serious than some want to believe. An ankle sprain that keeps a 19 year old out this long can in fact affect him for the rest of the season. I’m not being a Debbie Downer. It still having swelling a week later is a sign that in fact there was more than just a little “stretching” of ligaments. IF Frager plays in that game we’re in the driver’s seat for the B1G title and a # 1 seed. People discounting ANY loss at this point don’t understand the importance of EVERY SINGLE GAME to a program like Nebraska. Moral victories don’t count come selection Sunday.

You are and were being a Debbie Downer. Frager's injury wasn't as severe as everyone kept saying. we played a good game without Mast and Frager. We led for almost the whole game. They are fine. Are you?

He said that without Frager long term the rest of the season they would drop multiple games. Last night, without Frager and Mast, they played with and often outplayed arguably the best team in the conference (not including Nebraska) but we are supposed to believe they are so fragile that losing Frager for an extended period of time would turn the rest of the season on its ear. Debbie Downer double Downer.

****** luck having Mast out for that game. That was the difference. Sure, we probably beat them handily with Mast and Frager, but Mast randomly being sick was the difference.

Guess what though? We just got the Icelander quality minutes against a 7'3" guy on a top 5 team, and he didn't suck. It doesn't have to be all doom and gloom. We weren't going undefeated. Frager will be back. Maybe Curtis gives us another dimension off the bench for the stretch run.

Not too high. Not too low. You can look back and see my concern about injuries isn’t new. This season so far is one I never would have ever thought in my wildest dreams would happen at NU. I’m a HUGE Fred fan. Just holding my breath on injuries cuz that’s the ONE thing that can derail this runaway train. Nebrasketball junkie since LeRoy Chalk in the old Coliseum.

Tuesdays loss resulted in the biggest jump for NU in the predictive metrics like Kenpom that we’ve seen in a bit

I’m no moral victory fan, and i actually am interested in this frager injury stuff, but good losses do count in college hoops

I'm still interested in the Frager injury as well and agree that there are definitely good losses. The Frager injury has been basically one week. If he continues to miss games for the next couple of weeks then the concern about his injury would be warranted. I'm reminded about the movie line where the character is asked "aren't you worried" and his response is "would it help"?
Injuries are part of the game...but worrying about a player instead of enjoying the remarkable season....brings me back to "would it help"?
