Long shot but would be game changer if Iowa goes after him. Better runner than Fernando. Dude can sling it. Georgia Tech could be the early favorite.

Really surprised Cig didn't role the dice with him next year. 3 years of eligibility left.

Cig likes an experienced QB with a lot of reps. Many believe Alberto though is a future stud. I get it though. You are seeing a lot of top programs turning to experience in the portal over the young inexperienced high upside guy on your bench.

Iowa is gambling their season next year with those inexperienced guys on the bench. Gronowski probably won Iowa 2-3 games this last season. Experience matters.

With Indiana though Hoover turns the ball over a lot. Many thought Alberto can develop into a better all around QB than Fernando. He just might need a year as a starter to grow. Cig is rolling the dice with an experienced one year rental that might be a big step down from Fernando. While sacrificing a 3 year guy that could develop into a Championship caliber QB.

Remind me what experience Alberto has? That 285 yards passing...LOL
Umm just saying Iowa is choosing inexperience next season instead of grabbing an experienced QB like they did this last season. Cig is choosing experience over the inexperienced but talented younger Mendoza. Two different approaches and values placed on the QB room.

If Iowa is rolling the dice with inexperience then I say bring in more talent. I would have rather they went out and grabbed a veteran QB but....

You opened a thread discussing Iowa going after Mendoza. it's as simple as this, they didn't have the funds to do that. You can take a look at who the coaches were following in the portal, guys like Francis Brewu, Landon Ellis, Jojo Johnson...etc. I would have preferred going in with someone like Colton Joseph, but you risk losing players already. Imagine the amount of money Luack and Pieper could have garnered if they left.

I would assume maybe most talented kids have an agent nowadays and the contact is to the agent. Maybe the agent tells the kid or doesn't until the deadline, wink wink.
If we look at agents, we get closer to the root of all the problems in the post-transfer portal era. Wish having an agent wasn't allowed, although I guess players would just bypass that by having the agent double as their lawyer, or something.

good for him to get out of the shadows of his older brother, who might have had one, if not the greatest QB seasons of all-time

I could throw for 5600 yards if I had Ja'Marr Chase and Justin Jefferson.
It was stacked, I would argue there have been similar cores, 2018 bama, and Tua only put up 3966 yards. Will Howard had a core that could be argued to be that good as well in 2024.

I want to be clear I'm joking before someone gets their panties in a bunch.

What he did was great, but imagine the bubble screens Iowa could run with those 2.

Younger Mendoza may have been wise to do this simply by cashing in on his brother’s success. Name association alone likely brought his NIL/cash bag up a crazy amount with teams drooling over hopes of similar success as his brother. Add in what by all accounts is a very talented skillset and this dude is making bank while the gettin’ is good.

I thought it was the kid from North Texas
You are talking about Mestemaker? No, not even close. I think the only QB that would have an argument would be Lamar Jackson in either 2016 or 2017. 2012 Manziel would be comparable, but Jackson did it without Mike Evans.
