I am now very understanding of the argument by others saying that its because Sage Tate has been so good that is the reason behind Hausen not getting any minutes for at least 3 - maybe 4 - straight games now.

(still doesn't explain why Hausen can't have a couple of AF's, though, especially at moments when the game isn't very much in the balance)

I’ve been shocked by him all year. How were Tulsa and Drake his only offers.
he is the poster child for the over value placed on college athletes (as are most of iowas roster). Pretty much no one wanted the people on Iowa roster
People are getting paid way too much if guys like Howard and sage weren’t wanted.

Wasn't his high school team loaded with D1 talent? They went 110-12 over Tate's 4 seasons, which included winning the 2025 4A state title Tate's senior year. In his 4 years, Weatherford made 4 state tournament appearances, where it advanced to 4 state semifinals, 3 state finals and had 2 state runner-up finishes.

I believe I read where he had multiple other D1 players (some in other sports, mainly football I believe) and he was over shadowed. Something to that effect as I recall.

It will be interesting if his twin brother Ethan makes his way to IA. He’s a baller too it appears.

I have really enjoyed seeing young Mr. Sage blossom this year. I had an opportunity to meet him and chat with him last fall, I didn't know who he was at the time, and he could not have been more humble and gracious as a person.

He is extremely well mannered and I suspect that he will not let his growing success and notoriety change who he is. He is really someone that you are glad to see do so well. Keep it up young man, it's great to see.

He is the type of kid that makes me want to meet and talk with his parents...and not in a weird way. :) Just really appreciate people that do such a good job raising their kids.

Wow, not many true freshman have this big of an impact right out of the gate!
Great size and talent. Hard to believe he wasn't more sought after.
Hopefully he likes it at Iowa and will stick around!
And he's very humble also. In the interview, he mentioned not being highly sought after, and that motivated him to work hard and improve, and we can see that it shows. Fearless competitor, and credits his teammates a good deal for helping him adjust in all aspects of his game. Content to do well in his role and very focused . Admirable qualities.

To be fair............it's easier in a sport like basketball where you have fewer players on the court, and smaller roster sizes, to gloss over one or two of the hundreds of thousands of potential HS recruits or transfers in a given year.

That's part of the struggle for these coaches. You only have so much time in the day to evaluate so many players. You just have to trust that the players you pick to target, analyze and recruit will pan out.

Missing on kids will happen, especially when you factor in that not every player's growth operates on similar timelines.

Sometimes it works in your favorite, and sometimes it comes back to bite you in the arse in hindsight.

ugh; a pay wall

I mentioned above that Tate's high school team appeared to be loaded with D1 talent. Does it say who was on that team besides Tate? Weatherford went 110-12 over Tate's 4 seasons, which included winning the 2025 4A state title Tate's senior year. Where does his brother play?
Pittsburgh St.
Playing well.

Ethan (Tate's twin) is 6'7, 200 lbs.

Iowa has had some recent success with twins. ;)

The Pittsburg State University Gorillas are Division II.

Ethan's averages at Pittsburg State:
11.3 pts
7.2 rebounds
2.0 assists
1.5 steals

Ben McCollum, after Tate signed:

“Tate is exactly what we need for the future of Iowa basketball. He’s 6-foot-7, 6-8, can shoot, drive, do a variety of things and guard multiple positions. He is also a winner. We’re excited to have Tate be a Hawkeye.”
