I’m sure this video was edited to match up with the radio broadcast in a timely sequence because Dolph is generally far behind the action. The second shot of the game Stirtz hits a contested fade away three and Dolph says “standstill threeee… good”. That was not a very accurate description of the play other than a made three.
I rarely listen to the games live, so Dolph doesn’t bother me too much. I enjoy the pregame and definitely the postgames driving home after. Earlier this season, not sure which game (WIU?), I listened to the game as I was driving. Iowa had two travels in about four possessions. Dolph says “Iowa with another live ball turnover”. I cringed hearing it as he kept saying live ball turnover for a travel. 1) someone please correct him and 2) how does someone with basketball experience not know what a live ball turnover is? And yes, Dolph has said a lot worse on the air.
Dolph is still a hell of a nice guy.
Qucik story - We went to the Minnesota game a few years back and the Hawks won. Walking around the arena after the game and the fans had emptied out, we walked near the broadcast section in the upper corner of Williams Arena. Honestly I was hoping to get a picture of Bobby, but had forgotten that he goes down to the locker room for the post game. I took a few pictures of Dolph and he notices. I assumed he was still on the air, but covers his mic and says “where ya from?” I told him and he said that’s a heck of a long way. I smiled and then he asked for my last name and said that he’d give me a shoutout on the air for making the trip. lol Dolph was really friendly.
Bobby is one of the best. I’d listen to Bobby any day.
