Plan for him to not play another game. I dont want to do this whole "will he wont he" game where he plays 10 minutes a game, looks like hes at 60% and we either lose the game and/or forgot the development of guys like BG and MM.

We truly are nearing a point where he wont be beneficial to us. Hes likely not playing until February and we cant risk losing games by attempting to get him going.

Just let him go home wherever he’s from and prepare for the draft. UK payed millions to rehabilitate the guy. Do better Pope.

I don’t know if he could help the team even if he returned this season. UK needs to suggest that he sit out and rehab on the condition that he returns next season. His NIL should hinge upon his return next year. This paying players and them not earning it is stupidity. The working class of BBM, of which is the majority of us, is getting fed up with it. It’s showing in attendance and apathy.

If the kid is hurt, then he should sit and take care of himself. But he should not be paid NIL to come here and use UK like a Frasier Rebab.
Getting paid when you can't play is equivalent to welfare.
But then, I just read where Carson Beck said he hasn't been to a class in over 2 years and been getting paid millions.

Hey he’s been a part of three championships. Well will be soon lol. I’m sure he has someone doing his school work.

He should probably not play again, hard as it is to say that. He should definitely should get paid. This was not a Shaeden Sharpe thing. Wanted to play desperately and faced (still does) titanic risk/reward issues regarding playing—knee issues, not just "how do I look" issues.

This was a correctly handled black swan situation. It didn't pan out, but it was never likely to pan out, definitively. It was still correctly handled.

Plenty of problems with this roster construction. But locking up the chance to play Mecha Godzilla, however small a chance, by laying down at most a little more cash than we dropped for any of our other players, wasn't one of them.

You don’t pay top tier money for an injured guy who we weren’t sure would play at all. Another miss by Pope.

You get a guy like this at a steep discount, taking a flyer on him hoping he plays. Pope is sooo bad at valuing players.
No he values them a little too much lol. His evaluation is lacking tho.

And UK should be better than taking a risk on a player that’s likely to never pan out.

We should just be better than needing to as much as we did. Imagine if we'd signed Yaxel. We'd be nuclear good in the post right now. Still would have made sense to drop $2 mil on the chance of being otherwordly had JQ panned out. Same reason it actually makes sense mathmatically to play the lottery when the purse is over a billion bucks. Someone's gonna win. All the same, you don't wanna put yourself into a position where you NEED to win the lottery.

I mean can anyone truly be shocked if this at all happens???? Maybe the knee is “swelling” but seems odd to start sitting out after dad when to sm to complain.
Yea if Dad didn’t do that JQ probably could have gotten by without people claiming he’s holding out. His knee could be bothering him. Likely. It’s also very likely what’s happening is what a crap ton of fans said would happen. Dad should have just kept quiet.

Hopefully the scouts seen him dribbling around campus all year.

Yea Moreno stepping up doesn’t help JQ any. He’s not gonna look like a world beater because Moreno is showing he is a pro. I would say he’s better for our team at this moment. If JQs knee was 100% he still would need to come off the bench. Moreno the Kentucky Boy will hold it down for BBN.

This was a gamble that did not pay off and it is now a terrible investment by UK. Let's pray the Cats never do this again. If you invest millions on a player make sure they are 100% healthy.

And thats the problem with this current NIL setup, there is no real contract with these players. I bet you a lot of schools saw that he was looking for say $2mil and they passed figuring "if theres any setback on his recovery, he might not play at all and now we are out millions".

Goodman is just guessing but IMO it was ultra stupid to spend high dollar on such a risk of coming back after an acl AND meniscus.

Odds are the ACL has healed fine and due to his size the meniscus repair isn't doing too well. You have to be young for meniscus to heal back together In the first place...its cartilage and has low amount of blood flow and when older people tear a meniscus they basically tell you we can try and stitch it together but it probably wont heal/mend at this age and so on... they just cut the piece off often.

So now if you have less cushion (cartilage) the impact of basketball and being a big dude leads to inflammation (swelling)

Again
..super dumb we paid reportedly 2 mil plus on that gamble...love JQ and wish this didn't happen to him but it did.

We should have spent that money on another PG or shooter. Or not have say BG, JQ and one more maybe and took that money of 3 for 1 real elite guard.

Don’t be mad at JQ for signing the deal offered to him. This is no different than those that are rightfully pissed at Mitch for the Cal and Stoops deals. Pope signed him knowing his health. If you want someone to be pissed at, be pissed at Pope for signing him.

That X doesn't read like Goodman is claiming inside information, just posting his opinion. He might turn out to be right. But I'm not taking it as gospel. We'll all find out together.
Doubt Goodman is guessing. He and Mark are on a private number basis. Mark is leaking that he’s done. Only question is, is it the knee or are him and his father pulling a Sharpe and calling it.

Mark only recruited him because with his abilities and JMI he wanted to pull a “OAD” type player to show he can because, well, he can’t. Not yet.

Like I’ve said I hope to be wrong, but I don’t see Mark being able to handle this job, maintain UK top 10, and make final fours / hang championships. If he really is swelling, and we paid him that money over throwing it as Yaxel or someone else Mark is really bad at evaluating the situations. Stuff like this just screams over your head.

Whether he ever plays here again or not, it was a quick return for him from a catastrophic injury. Yes doctors have done wonders for injured players, but 9 months is a quick turn around.
He needs a full year to get healthy and reduce any type of swelling.

I agree. I believe he’s truly hurt. But his dad did him no favors by talking like he did.

Only the most gullible of the gullible actually believe this is due to “swelling”! Whatever, dude can fake his way into the NBA and play his games there, but anyone who knows anything about talent evaluation, knows JQ will play hell getting a 2nd contract!

Just another guy who’s gonna get paid for looking like he belongs in the league! He has ZERO offensive upside, and dude’s like Jokic will embarrass him, but that’s if he ever gets on the court with the big boys. Which I give about a 10%-15% chance.

I think he’s having lingering issues after that first game. I really don’t think he decided to Half arse it after that St John’s game. He was a big difference maker in that game. A healthy JQ would have helped against those UT bohemoths.
with that being said if he really is still having issues with the knee, doesn’t that make his Dad’s statement even more ludicrous?

Truth. I hope he can. He certainly needs to. Gotta figure out a way to close these deals and get some dudes. I love the last two wins, but I’m also not getting excited about another S16.
This team can do it. Just make the tournament. No I don’t love the way this team is made up. We aren’t the most skilled at every position. We do seem to be the most unique team this year. If we continue to sling that ball around on offense we can beat anybody. Most definitely get hot in the tournament.

Just make the tournament. It’s odd to say this but I don’t have much faith in us turning this around. Just being honest. It’s a big IF imo we make the tournament then I do feel confident about the players we have making a crazy run.

Don’t think we will make the tournament. But if we do I favor us to win it. Not because it’s my team… we got some dudes. Not like top tier talent dudes. But like a couple old school guys off the court. Seeing them click a little bit gives me a bit of hope.

The Last year i went to a game was 2012.superstition.
I picked this year to go to a game because I felt we were favorites to win the title. That’s where I was as a fan this summer. I lost that when the season started. I’m gaining that back if they can somehow slip into the tournament I got us winning. Crazy take sure I guess.

I'm sure he will be miraculously healed with zero swelling once it's time for NBA draft camps. He looked good against SJU, but I would have to think his draft stock has plummeted since. He looked ineffective vs SEC big men and now is apparently an injury risk. Even at his best, he is a dunker/defender but that could find a useful home in the NBA.

I'm not going to lose any sleep over this one... it was always going to be a pipe dream. Not only to remain healthy but also get him up to speed mid-season.

This team needs to spread the floor and JQ wasn't going to help us in that regard. Would like to see him back next year but I'm betting that JQ and his team will take a risk on being a late 1st round draft pick.

dad's unhappy, so play the injury card
IF the kid is hurt, that is one thing, but again the fans will never know because they have been fed so much bs from the prior coach
