Read an interesting article suggesting that Indiana should not be required to play an additional game to become the National Champions. The point made that they remain undefeated contrasted to Miami's record.
I disagree with that argument entirely.Read an interesting article suggesting that Indiana should not be required to play an additional game to become the National Champions. The point made that they remain undefeated contrasted to Miami's record.
This playoff is out of control. Honestly liked the old BCS or whatever way better. Also, no way JMU should have had to go to play at Oregon and get beat up. They should have gotten a real bowl experience.Read an interesting article suggesting that Indiana should not be required to play an additional game to become the National Champions. For the record, JMU could have declined their playoff bid and gone to whatever sh*t bowl the Sun Belt Conference champs get. This playoff is out of control. The beauty of college football was its regular season. Every game mattered. It wasn’t the NFL. If you lost a game, chances are you were out of national championship contention, unless something crazy happened. Ending the year at the Rose, Sugae, Orange, Fiesta, etc. was awesome. You even make a somewhat reasonable argument if you won your bowl game and were undefeated that you could claim a national championship! How fun is that?!!
Now a loss doesn’t mean nearly as much and the nationalization of conferences has diluted the passion for college football and most of its historic rivalries.
Done with the rant (mostly), but tell me: wouldn’t a simple +1 game after the bowls solve basically everything? (I guess maybe not the $$$$$ from the extra games??).
And in case anyone missed it, here is my video of the fighting Bull Moose that ended up getting broadcast on TV:But did you see this video @Alaskawildkat ? Of two Bull Moose fighting and destroying a fence? It popped up in my YouTube feed.

The college football season should end on January 1st.On a peripheral point, does anyone else sense that the time between the playoff games and the final game should be shortened to one week rather than two? The only plus I see is that it does extend the college football season one week longer.

Hard to argue any of those points, but if Miami wins tonight, given their flawed record I guess a case could be made that they do not merit being National Champions.Indiana is the best team in the country regardless what happens tonight, but just like the previously unbeaten New England Patriots the year their one loss was in the Super Bowl, if they do not win tonight, they are not national champions.
Best team doesn't always win; sometimes there are upsets. Part of what makes sports great. Simple as that.
I philosophically agree with you - that the CFB natty is a year-long championship that requires consistency, excellence and preferably an undefeated season - but that ship has already well sailed with the 12 team playoff. I always hate it at the start and then have so much fun watching the playoffs that I don’t much care.Hard to argue any of those points, but if Miami wins tonight, given their flawed record I guess a case could be made that they do not merit being National Champions.
