I see they are after a punter from Simpson. Hope that isn't all we are hoing after. He averaged 35 yards per punt.

I think for filling areas of need - DL, the safety positions and kicker a success. Rating FCS players in the BIG may require seeing spring, fall practice and playing time to give a grade. I would put this group in the B range based on potential and years of availability.

I just hope most everyone can play this upcoming season (where they are not that big of a developmental player)

maybe we should start handing out honorary degrees to billionaires :)
Where is Ashton? Where are the likes of George Kittle and many other multi millionaires? Not bagging on them as they may be giving something already but there ARE graduates out there in Medical fields, Economics, etc., that are LOADED with money. Are we inviting these people to Iowa City for a game, meeting, etc.? What perks can the university give them in exchange for donations? They are out there folks.

There are a lot of success stories of players coming out of FCS(Div 1-AA) into the NFL. Some guys are late bloomers and some turn into NFL HOFers. Walter Payton, Kurt Warner, etc.

I like the idea of going after guys who have already proven their skills as opposed to guys that couldn’t get playing time at a big school. They may be cheaper and may come in with a chip on their shoulder looking to prove themselves.

Punter is really the one need area that we haven’t gotten help with yet.

As was pointed out on the ANF podcast, this portal strategy also helps in maintaining our current team culture, morale, etc.

We are bringing in guys that are taking a step up in competition. They should mesh well with the blue collar, hungry to improve, chip on their shoulders, team first mentality.

Compared to if you are bringing in guys with high egos, have to pay them higher than existing players who have invested the blood and sweat already, me first mentalities. That would have a much higher chance of upsetting the apple cart.

With the exception of a few players, this was exactly how Cignetti built Indiana last year. He brought a bunch of JMU players along with other non-P4 players including QB Rourke from Ohio. Production over potential.

The SWARM CEO has stated in the past that he's talked to Iowa alum NFL players & their attitude is that they didn't get NIL so they aren't gonna contribute to it

On one of the Indiana playoff broadcasts, they mentioned how Cignetti values production over potential when picking up players from the portal. Iowa's taking a similar approach, it seems to me. We just don't have Cuban's money to play with.

IIRC, Indiana has 3 billionaires who contribute

As opposed to the other 1000’s of Iowa fans contributing that did receive NIL?

Kind of an un-Iowa like attitude, IMO. Not sure if they think they will have to make huge contributions or what. I contribute an inconsequential amount per year. Money, I would have spent elsewhere regardless, more than likely. But, as a Project Manager by trade, I certainly understand how a bunch of small amounts can add up to a large number.

Inconsequential amounts to these guys are certainly higher than what I give, and would add up too.

Ultimately, their money and their decisions on how to spend it. And nothing to lose sleep over.

Maybe they have other priorities
