They might not even have it yet....Open with LWE....Marist is now in the Blue so that won't be a week 2.

Do you think Marist becomes Week 9 game since most likely MC-Loyola keeps the tradition? Marist has King in their Week 2 and hoping Marist and Rita open with each other. Since sounds like Rita not playing MC this year in crossover hopefully Rice will be able to play Rita in non-conference game

Marist said no to two year contract last year. Then recently said no to week 1 or 2 next season. If Carmel don’t play national week 1 or 2 expect them and Rita to play. I don’t see either school saying no to that

So, there's a chance that Mount Carmel, not COM, and Rita could renew their rivalry and play either Week 1 or 2? Interesting.

I guess with the new playoff expansion: why not?

Yes MC. It’s why kids go to these schools, to play their friends or family from neighboring schools. Win, lose, route whatever it means more than beating up on a CPS school. Kudos to the coaches who don’t say no when the phone starts ringing. Only a few out there left

I get it, but I think a tomato can here or there is OK, too.

I see the POV of SR not wanting to get pummeled again by their rival, which can hurt recruiting and make it harder to get the "five" wins. That's been my attitude as of late.

However, I understand your POV as well along with only needing 3/4 wins to get into the playoffs.

It also gives the SR staff the standard of what a champion looks like. Aim to that level, and even if you don't truly reach it, you may still improve to the point where you're down 9 - 0 in a state championship game, with a golden opportunity to make it 9 - 7 with 6:00 mins to go.

I can see why Marist might be leary of playing Rita in opener - they have a tough schedule and change if they played Rita they might only get 3 wins

lol MC stacking state championships is hard to recruit against. Us, choosing not to play them when they ask? Makes recruiting even harder, makes us look soft.

It’s crazy that you think Rita is a cross fingers, schedule cupcakes get to 5 wins program now.

Is Marist anyone’s preseason #1?

It is shocking to me that St Ignatious has more wins over MC than Marist does…

So, Rita did not struggle to get five wins this past year? I think it was reasonable to feel winning at IC with a 4 - 4 record wasn't going to be easy.

What about 2023 - 24? 5 - 4 record.

According to St. Rita's website, there are no Weeks 1 & 2 games scheduled, yet.

Weeks 3 - 9

@ LA
vs. SF
vs. Iggy
@ Montini
@ Leo (probably not at Doyle Stadium)
vs. Benet
@ Nazareth

Yes and both years they would have made the playoffs at 4-5. Would have much rather been battle tested and played rice and MtCarmel week 2-3 last season then your “tomato can” teams you talk about.
Don’t see naz supporters crying about their years going 5-4 or 4-5 and making runs to win state. Yes Rita fell short, but running away from the best competition does nothing for them in terms of getting them ready for the state playoffs.

You want to take your chances with a 4-5 record. I do not.

A very tough Green schedule with a crossover against a Blue opponent does prepare a team for the playoffs. I had no issues with Marist or Sandburg being scheduled in previous years.

Under the five-win threshold, I'd rather have a schedule that would favor Rita making the playoffs every year than worry about playing the best competition and taking chances on making the playoffs. My point is: Rita already has a tough schedule. A tomato can during Week 1 isn't going to hurt Rita's chances.

But what I am getting at is you coming to terms and thinking that the new norm for St Rita is just hoping to get to 5 wins.

By playing a little weaker schedule, five wins will be a thing of the past. I do get your point, though. Since '19, program's been achieving really great results. Todd and his staff have done a great job through the years building a winning program.

Coach Hopkins and staff deserve great credit for continuing the tradition. Can't complain about 5 semifinal appearances with 3 state championship appearances in the last six years. If not for Covid, Rita wins 7A in 20-21, imo.

Playing MC does make Rita better; I get that. It's also been one-sided the last several years, and can be deflating. I know the staff is working real hard to get to the next level.

I still can' t find Rice full schedule but I know they play LWE in week 1 and then St Francis in week 3 and Marist in week 9 - so perhaps Rice week 2 is still open and they can play Rita?
