Nebraska adding Flag Football as Varsity Sport

Our cheap *** athletic department won't even fully fund baseball but we're adding stupid *** sports like women's flag football. Will Bolt has about half the scholarship money as SEC and ACC schools. Most of those schools are fully funding all 34 roster spots, Nebraska hasn't said what our number is just that they added a couple so probably closer to 15. Dannen only added 16 total scholarships to the 20 non revenue sports not including this new team.

"The women’s flag football team will have 15 scholarship players by the fall of 2026. The roster will expand to 20-25 players for the 2027 season."

Blame T.O for joining the big 10 and killing baseball, and maybe football. Some sports will be strong in the big 10 though. It is all about the money, until it isn't. This is isn't about title 9, but it might be a chance for us to win some games in football...maybe Nebraska girls are really good at football, obviously because Nebraska boys are ***. Nebraska Football games are pretty tough to endure right now, maybe a national championship girls flag football teams full of thicc athletic, competitive and fiery girls would be fun. Keep the game to an hour or so and let us enjoy the rest of our day. To be honest, watching boys film tik toks and play paddy cake while they make thousands to millions in front of 90k fans is pretty awful. NFL is already complaining about there not being enough NFL ready draftees, just another sign that boys "tackle" football is on the way out.

The obligatory protect T.O without evidence. I can simply say the last Big 10 team to win the college world series was SIXTY THREE years ago. Nebraska football record against big 12 opponents 91-23. Nebraska Football record against big 10 opponent 32-62 over the last 10 years. I love T.O, I think he is the greatest coach to ever live, and it wasn't his decision solely to move to the big 10 but Nebraska took the leap, something Nebraska doesn't do very often and it hasn't gone well, especially since the big 12 did survive and might have been healthier with a Nebraska bringing up a leadership position instead of being like the 8th most important team in the conference. I think the move was cocky and arrogant, while simultaneously being petulant and insecure, we thought we could just walk into the big 10 and be one of the big dogs, while concurrently being annoyed that Texas had too much clout. I mean, if Texas is abusing you, just imagine what Michigan and Ohio State are going to do. A bad decision, made for the wrong reasons, ended badly. And who gives a **** about the extra money, all that extra money is now in the hands of Bo Pelini, Mike Reilly, Scott Frost, and soon Matt Rhule. I think being able to be "fiscally flexible" meant we didn't need to be as competent.

Don’t try too hard to make sense on this one.

Maybe they'll be really good and we can have a new football team to cheer?

Is this to fulfill some title 9 quota or something?
Probably, and probably because football went from 85 to 105 scholarships. If things were actually fair, football should be excluded as it is the only real revenue generating sport. That way males would have equivalent access to niche sports as females.

People watch Nebraska football because of the men from 25 years ago, not because of the boys of today. Woman's sports are the most successful at the university and although football makes money, it isn't because of its intrinsic value, it is because of its historical value. The current football team hasn't earned it fans in at least 10 years and therefore are hemorrhaging support and relying on desperation and old money to stay afloat. People are increasingly more attracted to the competitive nature of woman's sports, the team work and hard work that woman put in, that boys often struggle with in the current era. Woman's volleyball has 10x the fire and competitive juice, beyond skill at their sport than football. I am thankful that for one season the boys basketball team has that same fire and competitiveness, but we are likely one year away from soft *** ballers practicing tik toks while they miss 3s. The future of sport is in woman's sport because boys are so soft and have been trained to be passive and fat while woman have been more and more encouraged to be feisty and competitive.

Perfect sport for soft little Matty to coach
You haven't apparently been around competitive woman before...men are bigger, stronger, faster but woman, when angry and wanting something will straight up eat you. I think Matt is right where he feels comfortable, having a nice positive attitude with a bunch of entitled, rich adult men play acting as college football players. I would love to see the energy and fire of a great woman's football team who has to earn their fans and nil instead of just being handed money because you were signed by clueless coaches who happen to coach a team that was great 25 years ago.

Okay I'll bite here. This is essentially affirmative action for women, who don't need it. As their college attendance is already near 60% and men's near 40%. Women pursuing education and careers and delaying marriage also definitively lowers the fertility rate which is already well below replacement rate and declining and will only continue to decline. Policies like Title IX are extremely stupid and destructive for society at large.

Football was started as a good ole boys club where rich boys got to get out their testosterone spike by running into each other out on an open field. The average bloke was falling into vats of rendering fat or being crushed under mountains of coal, or working the field 16-18 hours a day. Lets not act like athletes are some tough guys who "earn" their way, they are and were privileged from the very start. The point am making is that opportunity often comes from privilege, and then that opportunity can turn into value. College football started because of bored dudes not being killed in horrible jobs being able to waste their time playing football in front of a small group of equally bored people. Letting girls play, like in the case of volleyball, will eventually turn into something of value because girls athletes have unique value over males, especially in a society where boys can be very lazy and entitled. Saying title IX is destructive is like saying social security, or health benefits, or sick leave, bereavement leave, or disaster relief are destructive...they might be to an idiot or insane or sick person but to a normal person who understand vulnerability and opportunity, these things provide people with higher quality of life at some expense. Also keep in mind the inequality of market share. The first sports to arise, will use up finite wealth and time from fans, this will often lead to a permanent inequality where the dominant sport can be as ****** and as corrupt as wanted with no competition. The new sports will never get a foothold because people are already spending their time and money on the ****** sport, like college football. But lets say Volleyball girls have a chance, they are awesome and better than football and now have a chance to grow their product and maybe eventually compete...it is already happening as many people set aside their time and money for the girls rather than watch the Rhuletards. The dominant position of college football gives the impression that it has earned its way, but only because rich people subsidized it and still subsidize it to a large expense. Title IX just institutionalizes the subsidies that football has always received.

Give this drivel some rest.

Girls don’t have some unique value over boys.

You guys could use it like an amatuer feeder team that you could bring in some size and toughness from. Use your states natural gifts, you know?

If NU won't fully fund baseball then I have little desire to keep giving money
