Iowa State struggling with Baylor

I watched much of the second half and have watched several of their games. Crooks is very tough to stop on the block, if they get it in to her with her back to the basket, it's pretty much a given she'll back the defender down for an easy bunny. She also has a nice mid-range shot with a high release and a soft touch.

Other than that, she's not doing them many favors out there. She doesn't run the court well, she doesn't play very good D, she doesn't really get up for boards but does get a lot that kind of fall to her.

Seems like a very nice young lady, but I really can't see her doing much in the W. Those taller, more athletic bigs will eat her alive.

Rumor on Clone site is Brown might be done for the season.

That's a big loss since teams will continue to double team the large girl.

Yeah if she's done that sucks for Iowa St. I think their ceiling might be the Sweet 16 at best if she's gone.

It's that she was able to guard Ava and Layla. Neither can get too far away. Might have been better to go Houston and Stuelke.
Did you watch the ISU game because Ava hardly played? Also, did you just suggest that Hannah has better range than Ava? 🤔

Uh, no. Ava has better range than Hannah but she's been working on her 3, apparently, but never shoots it.

I said Ava and Layla because Hays did have to play a bit due to Ava's fouls.

I was suggesting running two posts with Hannah and Houston that, while smaller, are faster and superior athletes giving Iowa St. a different look.

Yeah. Ava has an effective midrange game. Hannah was completely ineffective offensively in that game over 37 minutes, going 5-14 because Crooks simply waited under the basket for Hannah to come to her. She never moved and let Hannah do whatever she wanted away from the basket because Hannah won't attempt a shot more than 3 feet out and she knew that. Houston isn't really a scorer yet and only had 4 points in 16 minutes. Ava's foul trouble was the entire story of that game and would have been a much bigger problem for Crooks on that end of the court.

Still ranked in both polls I see.

Only dropped 8 spots to 19 in AP. Dropped even fewer to 13 in coaches, ahead of Iowa.

Iowa St. has only beaten Iowa... that's their entire list of Q1 wins. Why are they being treated so favorably?

We are 11 and 14 respectively. I don't think we deserved to move up above anyone based on how we looked. Will have plenty of tough games coming up.

ISU only plays 2 ranked teams (10, 17) in their last 13 games. Iowa plays 7 ranked teams (15,12,14,3,24,8,25) in their last 13 and that doesn't count 3 teams that are very close to getting in the polls with USC, Washington and Minnesota.

There's an interesting dichotomy that has arisen between the AP poll and the net rankings. ISU is ranked 30th in the net. 10 points lower than where they stand in the poll.

The coaches poll hasn't updated from last week so the ranking doesn't reflect the last 2 losses. They will drop well below 13. Expect Iowa to rise a couple.

Clones are circling the drain.

Fennelly is, arguably, one of the worst in game HCs out there.

Fareway CEO better find some more $$$ or Crooks will get a payday to TCU/Notre Dame.

Fennelly might be one of the worst "in game" coaches I've ever seen.

Many Clone fans seem to think he exits when the large girl graduates.
Fennelly certainly isn't a bad coach. But he definitely has a ceiling that's prevented ISU from going any farther.

His forte has always been on the perimeter, and with Crooks he's had to adjust to more of an inside-out game, and he's also been unable to fill in capable shooters, who aren't scared to shoot, around her.

Iowa St is down 43-21 at the half against OKST.
The ISU loss is looking worse every week.

Crooks doing nothing more than backing down and bulldozing her defender and throwing up bunnies at the rim. Crazy how they've developed no other aspect to her game. Completely one-dimensional and it will never work at the next level.
