That's according to the broadcast last night. Cignetti and Indiana have used an Iowa-like formula to build a national champion. Iowa hasn't because KF is too conservative and has never believed in scoring points. Cignetti and Indiana have no problem with there.
So having a healthy Heisman QB, starting O-lineman for 2-3 years from Notre Dame, tOSU and even 3 year starters from James Madison didn't factor in? The narrative is still KF is to conservative.

Cignetti is a meticulous coach, spent time evaluating talent for Saban learning from the best program buying talent before it was legal and took a position with the money needed to replicate what he had learned. Cignetti is a very good talent evaluator, coach and maximized having the best quarterback money could buy. He gets major credit and deserves it all.

To compare Cignetti and Kirk or the Iowa program is a stretch to far. Nobody will ever know what Kirk could have done with money and talent. No amount of hindsight or foresight can even bring a guess. Congrats to Indiana and Cignetti. Lets see if they can finish a one off.

Kirk is as close as he’s ever been in getting to that level. Iowa is out working a lot of blue bloods right now to get into a similar position that Indiana has put themselves in. You can watch it unfold as we speak.

Just saw that Indiana average age is 23 years old. Not sure if true but really stresses the importance of retaining and developing.
Yes. Some guy on Instagram is talking about this. How Indiana is older team so their avg age of 23 vs other teams 20 more than makes up for the star difference.
Said the Packers avg age is 25. 5th and 6 th yr players vs young bucks.
Pretty interesting actually.

I have been saying this for years. Iowa (both FB and BB) needs juniors and seniors to be competitive against the top teams.

4* and 5* talent is a HS rating. Physical and mental development once they get to campus is the key the to perennial success.

One thing Cig mentioned in his post game commentary was going to find guys who were productive. I believe in this sense, Iowa is doing their best to replicate what Indiana has done.
I agree, we should be better after the portal than before while gaining multi-year players. I can understand the strategy based on avoiding some bidding wars.

I’ve read on here multiple times that Indiana just simply took Mark Cuban’s and John Mellencamp’s money and went out and bought the best talent in the country and that’s why they’re good.

Could it actually be that Cig is the real deal and identifies talent and makes the most of what he has better than everyone else?

We’re about 3-4 skill players away. We’re very close.
I like the current trajectory of how Iowa is building, filling the gaps on the roster - find proven younger players, in this NIL/Transfer Portal era. Find the guys that were maybe not quite developed their senior years(e.g. Kris & Keagan), but have shined in the RS FR/Sophmore years. They are essentially 4-5 Star guys that were either late bloomers &/or under the radar guys.

This gets you instant 2-deep players, for a fraction of the price of recruiting those 4-5 star unproven seniors. OR the one-and-done players.

KF & Tyler Barnes seem to be doing it well. It think they have the right formula for success at Iowa. I really, Really like what we are bringing in for spring ball/next year. Stoked to see what they can do!!!

Yes Cig can evaluate talent, older veteran coaches can do that, KF and PP are also very good at it, Bobby Petrino is good at it. It’s not just spending the most based on star ratings, that’s a fail.
