2026 DBack starters: Lee and one of the young guys at corners Lutmer and Hawkins at safety?

To me Lutmer is just a huge playmaker. At free safety he could roam, blitz, and hit and he may be a INT type of guy.

Hawkins seems to have the physical tools and already has produced. Anyone know his 40 time as he is described as "someone who can bring quickness and speed". Not sure if he is a corner or safety but at strong safety going up against tight ends and taller receivers he could match them.

Lee and Watson or another player like Godfrey at the corners. Lee was very good. Iowa's pass defense was very sound. Could he be a lock down corner?

What are your thoughts on Watson and Godfrey?

I think the starting safeties will be Lutmer and Hawkins. The corners will be Wallace/Watson and Lee. The cash will be Godfrey.

I think they like Lutmer at Cash. Good tackler and really good speed, and he might just be the best cover corner guy too. Unfortunately, there’s only one of him. I think he stays closer to the LOS but Phil usually has a QB of the secondary at one of the safety spots so who knows?

I agree about lutmer at Cash as he could, and I have said this before, play like a Christian Kirksey, as the wide side lkbr and be on the field every down. He is listed at 205 lbs on official roster but might be 210 to 215 by august. Kirksey started as a 220 pounder.

So many teams have a slot receiver therefore 3 WRs on the field at most times that him at Cash/Lbkr could work. I will just have to wait to see what the mad scientist Phil Parker concocts in his defensive lab.

Godfrey played great in the beatdown of Nebby this year. Small sample size but he made some plays. Does Lee have another year? If so I feel slightly better about the secondary.

Lee does have another year but I also felt like Godfrey was really good against Nebraska. That's why I wonder why everyone wanted him to move.

We also have Watson back too.

I feel pretty good about corner back in that case. We also have the highly rated 4 star Freshman coming in from Omaha. Safety, could be an issue.

I trust the secondary will come together just because Phil. I’m just really concerned about the D line.

Jones the incoming Freshman has the highest ceiling of any CB on the roster and it would not surprise Me at all to see Him on STs and dime packages and to make a push as the Season progresses, He needs to get to Iowa City and really get immersed in the S&C and Phil's system , Kid is a baller
