Weird settlement. Clemson will provide a positive letter of recommendation, but it’s public knowledge he was fired.

I guess it comes down to if a future employer cares about his comments or any negative pub coming from them.

Most colleges would put him on a pedestal unless the public found out. He is a frickin' hero to them.

First, I have no issue with this.

However---
The University will attest and recommend him based on his teaching . I think you would be surprised by the number of universities that don't care one way or the other about Charlie Kirk but do stand stand strong on the principle of Freedom of Speech. Many may in fact view the former professor's stand as a positive and chalk the issue up to a bad employee-employer fit. Long-term, the professor probably won as I don't believe his positions would have endeared him at Clemson or afforded him promotions over a long career. Clemson's position may also be a smudge for some future potential professors.

I hope the "smudge" as you call it, results in less of these while professors at Clemson

I think you want professors to be able to speak—- remember the days when conservatives were effectively silenced. Free speech doesn’t mean intelligent speech, comfortable speech or tasteful speech. As my 26 year AF veteran father repeatedly told me— “I may disagree and detest everything you have to say, but I have spent my life defending your right to say it”. I only served 6, but concur in anyone’s right to say whatever they believe is a hill to die on. Based on everything I have read, I would suggest that Mr. Kirk agreed.

Free speech is one thing and I agree. Indoctrination is another. Especially by authority figures which a professor most certainly is

I still say it just shows poor judgement and makes me not want my kid in his class regardless of my personal opinion on the subject matter.

As long as the grades arent assigned based on their politics but on the material, a professor‘s opinions aren’t a factor. Grading based on their personal views is not opinion and should not be tolerated on either side.

I would hope that college age students are capable of correctly deciding the merits or demerits of an opinion.

I see the “free-speech” crowd isn’t really supportive of free-speech unless it’s baseless ******** from the dumbest president and cabinet in the history of this nation.
You think he’s dumber than Biden? Man that’s harsh.

The article explains the settlement
The signed mediation agreement was published on another website. As both a lawyer and mediator, I have executed a ton of mediations in my career. The University got their arse cut on this. It should be no surprise. For anyone who knows anything about free speech, this was obvious outcome from day one.

That used to be their thing, but not as much anymore. FIRE is really the best defender of free speech these days.
Just last year they defended a neo-Nazi group.

Doesn’t matter. Don’t be a douche. He shouldn’t get another teaching job
In your world everyone has to think alike then? Speaking his own beliefs is too much for the **** your feelings crowd? Charlie Kirk was a divisive figure and sure as hell was no saint or martyr. I get corporations have a right to fire, but the very Orwellian precedents are becoming fairly extreme under maga leadership. The maga will go down in history as a vile group of people who did way more harm than good.
