No way I'm going to root for Oregon. Phil Knight? Eff that. I'm not a big state of Indiana fan. I hated it when I lived there. I love to root against them. But this is one where they've never won anything. It would be kind of cool. I don't like rewarding Oregon for those ugly uniforms and their unlimited pocket book.

As a Pennsylvanian closer to the western side of the state I have to pull for the yinzer Cignetti. And while I went to Bucknell and not IUP I have plenty of connections to friends and family who went there. Even attended a game once with some friends when Cignetti was coaching there. So yeah for me go Hooisers

I get your distaste for Phil Knight’s money being a large part of funding the Oregon team’s roster, but using the same criteria everyone better recognize what billionaire Mark Cuban, an IU alum, had to do with the current roster at Indiana. All the lavish praise thrown around for Cig on this board for his coaching acumen might not be as effusive without Cuban’s $$$ since it’s pretty difficult to have a zoo without animals. It’s impossible in college sports, as structured in its current form to determine who’s the best coach and who just has almost unlimited funds to buy the best athletes. JMO

I’m a cig fan boy because I appreciate top notch coaching like Osborne and Saban before him. Cuban may buy him players, but he still has to put it together to make it all work and get his team to execute at a high level time after time. His teams always seem well prepared and know what to do in any situation. It’s so different than the clusterf#€k going on on countless other sidelines every week. A far cry from what we have here and the other end of the spectrum from the Deion nothing-but-hype machine

Cignetti is an *******. And I hate Oregon and their different uniform combinations for every game.

Assembly Hall in Bloomington will have empty seats and little to cheer for. Go Ducks. 16-0 ?

I'm guessing that school is high on life for every sport... they lose this one it's still another year forward and in the spotlight... I bet they'd still fill that place... might even have a little angst to get out

Yes. Modern college football sucks. But the SEC has been paying their players big time for years. You've seen the imbalance for years. It's not like they play better football in the South. And now you can see how much money has an effect when lesser programs such as Oregon and IU can now buy competitiveness. And there's not a lot of hope for Nebraska unless we get our own billionaire to fund us a championship.

All that aside, begrudgingly, I'm going to root for IU since they haven't sniffed this before. I really don't understand the love affair that many have with the South. All that talent would surely go to school elsewhere without all that money. You would leave too if you could.

Indiana fans care about football as much as Nebraska fans care about basketball.

oregon had pink nike uniforms
the canes? I just can't do it
go ole miss!
F the SEC... there is no way on God's green earth that I would root for a media darling "all talk no show" conference team.

Indiana as jealous as I am of them right now is a 100% who I am pulling for.

Oregon is the Texas Tech of the west coast, just over funded and impossible to root for

Miami is Miami, they are definitely a recruit destination, but at least it is not kids going there because of money (not to the extent of Oregon and the Southern Schools).

1. Indiana
2. Miami
3. Oregon
4. Nope - Wish Ole Miss nothing but a beat down

Nothing personal against Ole Miss, but they're in the SEC. That's enough of a reason for me.
I don't want to hear the nauseating chants of S-E-C, S-E-C,....!, and I don't want to watch ESPN, once again, anoint the SEC as a conference that could contend in the NFL.

fair enough, I guess I dislike sankey and college football being carved up and georgia and bama winning all the time, not that I dislike them but I like the wealth spread around (unless it NU!)

This is correct. There was a reason Indiana looked so ready to play in the Rose Bowl against an Alabama team fresh off a big comeback win against OU. It's called good coaching. Talent matters but it is coaching that harnesses it into a machine that wins games. Cignetti has it figured out.
I also think we must consider whether it is year 2 and not year 3 that determines the ability of a coach.

The real question is, why didn't Indiana look rusty after such a long layoff like most of the other teams that had byes?

I'll take it. It's the biggest hurdle standing between us and a possible #1 vs #2 showdown at the end of the month (obviously every B1G game is a potential loss, I'm just sayin things get a lot easier after Saturday).

And yes, I also know it's unlikely it will actually be #1 vs #2 given Arizona is unlikely to lose, never mind the other teams in front of us - and folks still don't respect our brand. But there's an outside shot at it happening and I think that's cool.

...And it would be on Peacock.

I guessing if indiana plays the canes for the NC, it won't be in sand, in the canes back yard, on new years night, with the refs jumping up and down for them...
I get your reference, but the National Championship game is at Hard Rock Stadium, Miami Gardens Florida

Cuban seems to act like he is not giving IU money, no idea if that is true or not though.

I doubt he gives as much as Phil knight. And this is only their second full season under Cigs. This is mostly about creating an amazing standard and culture.
