Finished with three fouls.
He's smart enough to avoid excessive fouling.
Just an average first half from him and we go home winners.

I don't think that was bad decision even with hindsight. Stirtz played really poorly in 1st half. If I had to guess his +/- had to be lowest on team in the 1st half. Iowa made their run when he went out and rest of team Howard and Combs primarily started to attack. When he came back in Minnesota went on another run and then he pulled him again. Stirtz played much better in 2nd half.Finished with three fouls.

I missed most of the first half so can’t comment much about that, but regarding Combs, i wish he was a little more selfish at times. He’s very good at getting into the lane and finishing through contact. Has good size and is physical. Were a few times last night he got in the lane and could have easily got a shot up and instead tried to dump it off and ended up being a turnover.I don't think that was bad decision even with hindsight. I know Ben likes his "efficient" Offense, make the extra pass for a better shot, etc. But there were many times where we had open 12-15 footers and failed to take them, then resulting in a worse and/or contested shot later or a turnover.I missed most of the first half so can’t comment much about that, but regarding Combs, i wish he was a little more selfish at times. It's hard to get uncontested shots in the Big Ten. When you get them, take them.![]()
Combs weren’t even 10-15ft shots. He was in the middle of the lane where he’s most efficient. I've said something like this before, think it was the msu game. It seemed they didn't even think about scoring till the shot clock was at about 5 sec.I know Ben likes his "efficient" Offense, make the extra pass for a better shot, etc. But there were many times where we had open 12-15 footers and failed to take them, then resulting in a worse and/or contested shot later or a turnover.

His teams take almost zero mid range shots over the years. Layups or 3's. He's been that way for awhile. There were a few Drake games last year where they took nothing outside 5 ft or 3 pointers.I know Ben likes his "efficient" Offense, make the extra pass for a better shot, etc. But there were many times where we had open 12-15 footers and failed to take them, then resulting in a worse and/or contested shot later or a turnover.

That's how his teams play and always have.I've said something like this before, think it was the msu game. It seemed they didn't even think about scoring till the shot clock was at about 5 sec.
I said the exact same thing.I thought McCollum made a mistake in putting Stirtz back in when he did. The Hawks were in the middle of a run without him, and they went stagnant again when he came in. For some reason it seems Stirtz can't really get going until the second half.
Alvaro had another rough game.. Folgueiras even thinking about that pass on that wide open 3 was ridiculous, pull the trigger
He missed everything on his only previous wide open attempt. I can only assume that factored into his thinking.. Folgueiras even thinking about that pass on that wide open 3 was ridiculous, pull the trigger
Yes that's spot on - I remember thinking "they are on a roll with the current configuration, hope that isn't disrupted" type of thought when I saw Stirtz was returning. Only because of the timing and close to the half, nothing against Stirtz..I thought McCollum made a mistake in putting Stirtz back in when he did. BM might have agreed with that assessment because he didn't play much after that. It was the second lowest minutes he logged this season. If he’s gonna pass that up, there’s no point of him being out there

Biggest part of the problem in my opinion with the offense is the talent. There's just not a lot of offensively skilled guys right now. If you take starting lineup if you get a wide open look from mid range or further for Cam, Combs, or Banks early in the shot clock do you want them taking that shot? I'm not sure you do. Banks is hitting a good percentage this year but it's at a low volume and not his strength. On other end sometimes that ends up being best opportunity of the possession.I know Ben likes his "efficient" Offense, make the extra pass for a better shot, etc. But there were many times where we had open 12-15 footers and failed to take them, then resulting in a worse and/or contested shot later or a turnover.

No doubt that they lack shooters. With Combs it seems like he can get into the lane almost at will because of his size. I just wish he would be a little more aggressive getting in the paint and when he does more selfish shooting instead of looking to drop it off.Biggest part of the problem in my opinion with the offense is the talent. He was more of that last night in 1st half and I agree you can't play 30 minutes a game and be a total non threat to score. Teams are putting a lot of effort right now in not letting Stirtz beat them. When he'd try to penetrate last night you'd see minnesota collapse off their man. I do think Ben's going to need to find some minutes for Haussen and if Coop, folgueiras, or Sage get an open look you have to take it.No doubt that they lack shooters. Well, not that I disagree with what you're saying, but IF these guys are on the floor as Big Ten players, they should be able to make an open shot from free throw range or less. If you can't do that, play at Wartburg.Biggest part of the problem in my opinion with the offense is the talent. There's just not a lot of offensively skilled guys right now. Out of the 8-10 man rotation that’s typically used, I’d say there are 4 or 5 guys who are legitimately good shooters. So I don’t know if it’s so much a lack of shooters or if there are players like Cooper or Folgers who seem hesitant to launch it at times, or Hausen who doesn’t get a whole lot of minutes or opportunities. No doubt that they lack shooters. I agree with all of this. Not sure it’s a lack of good shooters, maybe more a lack of willing shooters. Might come from Ben and working for a layup as much as anything.Out of the 8-10 man rotation that’s typically used, I’d say there are 4 or 5 guys who are legitimately good shooters. Even Combs and Howard have hit enough threes to be a threat, although they appear to be better at getting into the lane.
Offensively, there seems to be more meat on the bone than what we’ve seen.
Like i said, i didn’t see most of the first half. Appeared like Combs had a pretty good first half i just didn’t see it. And made some early turnovers in each gameMaybe BMcC was sending a message. 2 games in a row Stirtz has gotten 2 fouls (or more) in the first half. This isn't the MVC, this is the BIG and teams will go after him to draw more fouls.
Learn your lesson, and move on.
Didn't watch Drake at all last year, but that seems odd. Stirtz has a pretty good mid range gameHis teams take almost zero mid range shots over the years. Layups or 3's. He's been that way for awhile. There were a few Drake games last year where they took nothing outside 5 ft or 3 pointers.
So basically the same issue the womens team has with a starting lineup of Kylie, Mccabe and Stuelke if teams run Taylor off the three point line? At least Jans team has a lost post threat....Well, not that I disagree with what you're saying, but IF these guys are on the floor as Big Ten players, they should be able to make an open shot from free throw range or less. You're essentially playing 2-3 on 5 every possession, that's a bad thing. Or as some might call it the Connor McCaffrey effect. (with all due respect to the best post feeder in NCAA History of course........).
