I’ll agree that seems like an aggressive prosecution.

The first amendment needs to stand strong. Wish the democrats would have defended it harder when they were in charge. But I didn’t see anyone asking for defenders when the government was ordering twitter to censor. In fact many dems supported it.

Hopefully going forward We The People can join forces and protect speech. The prosecution you pointed out seems like it went too far.

fatpiggy voted for a criminal clown he knows is insane who went on to brag about taking free speech away while blatantly pressuring universities and networks to censor people and making up a law that gives people jail time for free speech that has been allowed in this country forever and then blames the Democrats for not protecting free speech.

spoken in the vernacular of the average Trump voter...

Terrible. Should be noted it was residents and not right wing politicians that wanted him arrested.

Weems told news outlets that most of Bushart’s “hate memes” were lawful free speech, but residents were alarmed by the school shooting post, thinking Bushart was threatening the local Perry County High School, even though Weems said he knew the meme was referencing a school in Iowa.

“Investigators believe Bushart was fully aware of the fear his post would cause and intentionally sought to create hysteria within the community,” Weems said in a statement to The Tennessean last month.

He said Bushart was arrested after refusing to delete the post. His bail was set at $2 million."

Sounds like the government censoring the speech of a free citizen to me. political speech.

"The one that got Bushart arrested was a meme featuring President Donald Trump and the words, “We have to get over it.” That quote, the meme explained, was said by Trump last year after a school shooting at Iowa’s Perry High School."

How does that bull **** make any sense? Because he referenced what Trump said about a school shooting, people thought he was creating hysteria? Good gracious what a mess this country is in.

The difference with Twitter is that misinformation campaigns from foreign states are running wild. These social media platforms are being weaponized against US citizens.

I don’t like the government telling any site what is misinformation and what is not.

We need to amend Section 230 to hold these platforms accountable for damages from misinformation. Just like media orgs are liable for misinformation, social platforms need to be held to the same standards. Once the threat of lawsuit exists, they will quickly figure out a solution to limit liability. Right now Twitter is running wild with bots and having a massively negative impact on society.

I think it’s clearly an issue for the wellbeing of the country. Normally you’d expect everyone to come together to figure out a sensible solution, but everything is so polarized it seems impossible.

Foreign powers absolutely take advantage of our freedoms.

One party has done a masterful job of using these platforms to manipulate voters, while the other has been using it with less successful results.

And it’s only gotten worse with LLMs as you can stand up 1000s of bots in minutes.

Do you actually understand the role of journalism in American history?
Do you understand what FREE SPEECH means?

Do you believe in Free Speech?

I also understand the journalist have been in the democrats pockets for the past couple decades. That is why they don't like free speech. They hate X because now all their lies get challenged.

not necessarily. One of the tenants of Christianity is forgiveness.

Of course, with Christianity like with many other things in life, you can come up with many other things that make your point. I particularly like the stories about weeping and gnashing

Free speech is different than the ability to broadcast any message you want to millions of people. By your definition, anyone could go on TV and share plans of how to build a bomb and encourage people to target government facilities.

So, you think that is worse that the Biden Marxists illegally obtaining phone records on 11 republican senators, 1 republican house member, several conservative people who had connections to Trump, conservative news reporters, and businesses, just because they questioned the 2020 election that certainly had major issues? And, the same Marxists made up a fake story paid for by the democrats about a Russian collusion that never really happened. And because they generated this fake story they then impeached Trump, put General Flynn in jail, destroyed him financially, all for something that was fabricated by the Democratic Party and never really happened. You people are sick when all of the evidence is revealed, stacked up to the ceiling, and you still believe Trump colluded with the Russians!!! If the republicans had a spine everyone associated with these issues would be in prison, even Hussein Obama.

I hope karma catches up with you Marxists, and soon!!!

I tend to agree with you here. I think it’s going to continue to be an issue unless the government tightens down. The liberties we expect as Americans make us vulnerable in some cases. People don’t want to have censorship, yet want to have anonymity. It’s a trade off of real freedom in a way.

Yes I know. I’m not debating that, it’s critical to our country. I’m saying that those freedoms can have consequences that were never intended. Greatest strength becoming the greatest weakness cliche. It’s something we need to be vigilant about because it can be taken advantage of by adversaries.

Free speech, ya moron.

They loved Twitter when they had control over it. They can’t stand it now that their ideas get challenged.

The left can’t win in the arena of free ideas, so they want to censor you.

That’s how you end up with transgenderism, russian collusion, forced vaccinations and telling people to wear masks. Bunch of losers

So your view on free speech is that anyone can say anything to anybody at anytime and it be completely consequence free?

Not much of a choice between the two sides. There is the far-left, the far-right, and MAGA. I say *** the extremes of both sides. Both far-left and far-right are fascist authoritarian pieces of crap. Thats why both sides united against MAGA. Funny how people like the Bush's and Cheney's became heros on the left. Because like Ive always said they are on the same side putting on a show for the masses much like the WWE. People like me on the conservative side believed Bush was on our side and people like Dpic thought Obama was on their side. Not knowing they was really on the same side playing all of us. It took an outsider winning when he wasnt supposed to that exposed that. Some people refuse to see the truth. Its like the Matrix movie. Some just dont want to know the truth and prefer the lie...

I would say it means that the Gov cant infringe on that right. That doesnt mean you wont suffer some backlash from the public expressing their own free speech...
