The following was posted on Sep 16, 2025:

What's interesting is Ryan Day is now 73-10 (.880).

Over the last 4 full seasons (after covid, 2021-2024), he's averaged 11.75 wins and 2 losses (.854).

When they lost to Michigan last year, he and his family needed 24/7 protection because of all of the threats he and his family were receiving. And then they go on to win the National Championship....crazy.

Any way, IF Ryan Day were still at Ohio State and IF he were to continue at 11.75 wins/season:

.....82 wins: at end of 2025 season
..211 wins: at end of 2036 season (18 full seasons at Ohio State)
..223 wins: at end of 2037 season (19 full seasons at Ohio State)

Yah, KF's been awesome. Nothing like chalking up a big win vs. Albany. And he can break the record against the mighty ones from UMass. Playing two cupcakes every year for 27 years does add up. Of course, KF has lost to the likes of Western Michigan and Northern Illinois and pulled out a 17-16 win over UNI a while back, but 50 gimmes--that's about a quarter of that total, if my math is correct. Yah, that's really, really great. Any idea how much longer it's gonna take and how much money it's gonna cost before KF finds an actual, healthy, serviceable D-1 QB? Asking for a friend . . . no, really just an acquaintance. But in the meantime, celebrate while you can, cuz ISU and Indiana and Oregon and Penn State and USC, among others, are on their way. But whipping the boys from Albany, man, that's gotta make ya proud.

Full text of tweet:

There’s truly no place like home! My Sonshine, Tyler Goodson, returned to his college home today—what a full-circle moment. Coach Ferentz marked his 205th win, tying Woody Hayes for most in Big Ten history. And not if, but when he beats Iowa State, he’ll become the winningest coach in college football history. Congratulations, Coach!

Nice story on kf.
One thing stands out to me:
He was never lusting for the head job and all the power/ glory trappings.
Those are the guys who you hire.
With KF it has always been about TEAM.

Coming into 2001, with the 4-20 record he was on the hot seat but that upset of NW late in 2000 along with the msu win gave us hope.

I think that NW win was the turning point in his run.,also denied NW the rose bowl.
Rest is history with 24 winning seasons in 25 years. Helluva run,KF!! Congrats!

What exactly is your purpose here? Why don't you take a poll of all the young men who have played for Kirk during his tenure and get their thoughts of him as a man and as a football coach. I'd suggest you do so online and not in person though if you don't want your A-- kicked by the 95% of his players who love the guy.

I don't think I've ever been less impressed by a record connected to Iowa athletics. This is a longevity award.

Your suggesting we'd have a much better record had we changed coaches every 4 or 5 years like a bunch of other schools and the fact is thats absolutely NOT true. Go beyond the blue bloods of college football and look at the records the last 25 of the rest of the top 100 schools and I feel very comfortable that almost none of them have won 205 games in that time period. I get that many are tired of the guy, or more likely bored but your insane if you think we'd have won more then 205 games by switching coaches every few years like so many schools have. So, in fact longevity DOES matter, unless you don't care if we win or lose, and the topic here is about winning games......

KF's first 3 years at IOWA were rough, no question; but after that, he's won 2/3 of his games at IOWA.

Heading into today's game vs UMass:

Iowa has won 97 games during the College Football Playoff era --the 11th-most nationally during that span and 5th-most in the Big Ten.

IOWA is 1 of 5 teams in the country to have won at least 8 games in each of the last 9 years.

We have a good enough defense over those years to beat the crappy teams in our schedule. Congrats to the coach with the most losses in conference history

This is gonna be subjective, but Im gonna go back through Kirk's 27 year tenure and look at how many extra wins were missed out on simply because Iowa sh** their yellow pants and lost close games to teams they absolutely should've beaten.

Some of these are my own personal opinion on whether we should've won. Some games may also be excluded because we just lost close games against good teams.

Also, I will skip Kirk's first two years, because that was still part of the building process, and we certainly hadn't "arrived" at that point.
