2A Final - Athens vs Wilmington

All "Roughing the..." penalties carry an automatic first down under Federation rules.

    New Rules for 2022

I don't believe there are any such specific prohibitions in the NFHS code beyond the kicking tee being no taller than 2 inches. Perhaps one of the other officials who post here can find a rule citation?

Strangest things you seen & heard in Illinois High School Football

Reminds me of a game I worked many moons ago at Holy Cross (RIP) in an incredible downpour such that we had punts both (1) stick when they hit the turf/mud without a bounce and (2) hit a puddle and float away before they could be downed. Also at one point had to move a kick off from the 40 yard...

    MAYBE?

Very well said, Dieter. IHSA is very concerned about officials being properly and consistently trained for 7-man mechanics before adding them to the playoff crews. There is also very little, if any, interest in individual schools and conferences paying for the larger crews during the regular...

    New Bylaw proposals

Does anyone believe those week 9 games between non-qualifiers will get scheduled?

Could this be the year....the IHSA implodes?

People made fun of John Kerry and GW Bush for graduating from Yale with C averages. In th e'60s a C at Yale was an indication that you are of AVERAGE ABILITY AT YALE. Not average at North South Faber A&T. ===== Faber...I see what you did there....Knowledge is Good.

    What do numbers look like

Yes we get a little extra. I have never done a "6th quarter" so I don't know what to expect. 5th quarters vary from 10 plays on offense/10 plays on defense to running clock of 10/12/15 minutes to a regular clock 10 minutes play-by-all-the-rules. And they are without a doubt the biggest source of...

    What do numbers look like

Officials are being told to not expect many freshman B games but lots of A games with 5th or even 6th quarters.

    Schedules released

It is a grim situation, and as you mentioned in an earlier post, there are going to be a lot of very inexperienced officials working varsity games this year, and potentially games having to be covered by less than 5 officials. I hope they survive and grow into experienced officials.

    Dergo Game

That was a VERY good crew that worked those games.

Football isn't happening until the Spring

I don't think it is possible to answer this "yes" or "no." I think there would be a lot of officials willing to work the games, but not sure it is a majority. Safety protocols would be of concern to some, as was the case when the regular season was still under consideration (that was probably...

Football isn't happening until the Spring

I don't disagree. I was trying to clarify that the IHSA currently could not stop anyone, licensed by them or not, from working a non-IHSA game. They could change their rules and codify that as a requirement to hold or maintain an IHSA license (which I highly doubt they would do as it moves them...

Football isn't happening until the Spring

Football officials in Illinois don't "work for" IHSA. We can receive a license from IHSA, which is a requirement to be hired by an individual school to work a game that is performed under IHSA sanction. But that license does not impart any constraints on where or for whom we can work a game. If...
