I think these 4 guards will go down in UK history as the greatest single season group of guards at Kentucky ever

How about 1980? UK had Kyle Macy, Dwight Anderson, Jay Shidler and Dirk Minniefield. All were highly sought after out of high school. Even though they all did not reach their full potential, that was a talented bunch.

    Post Defense

Throwing two seven foot defenders at Bacot was a difference maker for UK. Both big men made contributions. As far as team defense, I would prefer Cal applying less pressure on opposing guards way out on the floor, because they drive right by for layups. Pick these quick guys up at the three...

    Well Played and Well Coached…..

I thought both coaches did a good job. This was a high level December game that will stack up against any game of any era. Big win for Cats. Now, hopefully, UK will play this well or better going forward, instead of taking a step back.

Cats do not win without his ten minutes. Much improved from last year.

    Cliff Hagan turning 92

I attended many basketball and football games when Hagen was AD. I don't remember any basketball or football games that weren't sold out.

Richard “Master Blaster” Madison….one of my all-time favorite nicknames!

Madison came to UK heralded as a multi sport superstar. Had college football offers, if I remember correctly, and threw a baseball 90 miles an hour as a pitcher. He was a pretty good rebounder and always played well against Louisville.

    SEC

SEC teams all have the same problem-they can't put enough points on the scoreboard. Not enough good coaching and few quality scorers. A very weak group of teams.

    Still want Oates?

I agree , Blueaz. Most teams are running this "modern" offense, and the game scores are reflective of it. Low scoring games. Boring games. Way too much dribbling by most players and too many wasted possessions because of bad shots being taken. Coaches allow almost every player on their team...

Can any of you old timers talk about the JV teams that UK used to have?

I saw that group play one game in December of 1971. They played in Freedom Hall in Louisville as an added attraction to the UK-IU game, the first UK game I attended. I do not recall the opponent, but the JV team rolled by about 30 points. I was super excited to be going to the game, in part...

I hope you didn't pick Iona today like I did

I plan to watch Iona just to see what offense Pitino runs. I have not seen Iona all year. Does Pitino run some motion along with some screens, or does he spread the floor and rely on out of control drives to the basket and one-on-one play. Does Pitino play post basketball with a guy who can...

    Modern offense

Remember the Pitino system? Full court pressing style defense will wear down good three point shooting teams. Shots that fell in the first half miss in the second half. But you need depth to play that style. And Calipari does not fill all his roster spots because, and he said this recently...

Why would ANY UK fan go back to the SEC Tournament again???!!!

I have been to many SEC tourneys. One-and-done trips are not fun. Been there, done that.

Can we decline the NCAA bid?

I can not watch the bungling brand of basketball UK plays under Calipari. Players make the same mistakes over and over, like Oscar elbowing opponents in the face. Or Toppin making lazy hand-off passes that are stolen for dunks. How many times have UK dribblers drove wildly to the basket, only...

    Coach Cal March Madness Preparations

Probably sweating bullets. Another first round loss in the tournament would be too cruel for UK fans to accept. Maybe he will occupy himself by counting his millions of dollars.

Weigh in on Joe B Hall

1975 was far from a "bummer" year for UK basketball. It was a great year to be a UK fan. The addition of freshmen Robey, Phillips and Givens filled holes in the previous roster that enabled the team to excel. Plus, UL and IU were standout teams that year and made for spirited debate between...
