    The point of "Preseason #1" isn't that it's an accolade, just saying we have the best team on paper. Imo, it's the same as saying "Does it look like we are the best team in college basketball next year, seeing as we won't actually know until at least next January."

    This is the correct answer. The number they are using is the number of times a team has had to win a game to get into the sweet sixteen. Before this, by being in the tournament a team was already in the sweet sixteen. They could have been a bit more transparent about the statistic, but it's not...
