Why is everyone assuming martinez is so much better than gebbia anyways?

Keep in mind Martinez is just a true freshman. If gebbia is doing good and bunch can be the backup why wouldn't we save Martinez and redshirt him this year? Not to mention Martinez could play in 4 games this year to get experience and still keep his redshirt
