Indeed, but that one was Casey.

As Casey Stengel once said, “Joe is a terrific 22 year old rookie and next year he has a great chance to be 23."

OT: Victor Wembanyama is very tall, and very good.

Thunder is doing a great job keeping him from getting to his best spots. That looks like a vulnerability iin his game. He could use Dirk, and Garnett’s, maybe even Jordan’s, muscles.

They don’t have a drill for weird releases and arm angles.

Michigan coach says current college football model is unsustainable

So you're saying Duke has "no morals and no standards" - pretty high ranking both nationally and internationally for an institution with no morals or standards.

    End of the Prime mystique

Yup - much of my career has been in what I call "applied sociology", although that was not my major. Mastery of those techniques would be graduate material but NU does have a data analytics major or concentration in the education and social policy school where undergrads would learn that stuff.

Absolutely Bernie Beck. And apropos of this board, NU roundballer star Jim Pitts was on the sociology faculty. Terrific guy and friend.

    End of the Prime mystique

I think you're enjoying some outrage but the truth is more like this - and I know: There are Mickey Mouse sociology degrees that are what you are kind of describing designed to let people with no analytical skills skate through. There are also serious sociologists in management science, around...

Michigan coach says current college football model is unsustainable

As has been debated on the board as long as I've been here, we could if admissions would go the way of Duke and if we paid the players enough to overcome our reputation as being an average or less school in the revenue sports.

    End of the Prime mystique

It can be, but not if it's done right. It is the study of how people and populations organize themselves and has very real applications for how businesses are organized and operate, government and politics, the military (Moskos' specialty), sports teams, or really, anywhere people are gathered...

    Jack Lausch!

I've seen him play live a bunch of times and he has struggled with chasing against pitchers throwing topping out between 88 and 92 MPH and breaking balls in the mid 70s. I expect he will be a late round draft pick but it's going to be one and done if he doesn't get better on laying off stuff...

Sizing up the new-look Wildcats' depth chart for next season

I doubt there's any reliable analytics on that one. There's stuff out there that projects major league performance from minor league stats but it's not very reliable. Here we have guys moving up a level or who didn't get much run at other programs and we don't know if it was because they...

OT: if you suddenly found yourself with a massive windfall, how would you invest it?

I'm guessing it really varies. I know people who have family foundations and some of them agonize over each grant they make and others have a fairly steady portfolio they settled on a while back and don't necessarily look too closely at the performance of each of their grantees year to year.
