    To be a great player requires the raw athletic ability, ability to refine it, the sport's IQ, and the internal motor. There's guys that have some of these, but not many that have them all.

    Illini didn't look so good tonight. Abandoned cutting and movement. By the end it was all one-on-one and too often very long 3 attempts. CT just took away their game.

    That a guy started for us is not in and of itself a measure of how good he is or will be. Reid started for us too and no one thinks he's going to be a really good player next year.

    The "They're 30-0/1 so they must be at least somewhat good" argument is just not logical. My high school won the state championship years ago, went over 100 points 5 times and had 3 guys on the all-state team. Probably the best high school team in the state's history. They still would not...

    Crazy series

    Against USC this weekend. Get thrashed in the opener, shutout 2-0 in game 2 even though they clobber the ball all over the field and would have had three hrs if the wind was blowing out just one mph, then take the finale in the ninth to give USC its first loss of the season.

    Purdue vs. Northwestern Game Thread

    I've thought for his whole career Smith was over-rated with gaudy but easy assist numbers. Take that away and he's a good but not exceptional player. I also don't think Fears was All League team 1. He's a good player but misses a lot of shots and his assists are good but not remarkable.

    I hope Reid will be on the bench. To have a winning BIG10 team, will need much stronger guard defense and a Leach or Langborg type scorer. If Reid is the starter, I don't think we're quite going to be there.
