    Men’s Tennis Transfers

I agree it’s a necessity with the current playing field, but it also demonstrates how disconnected D1 sports have become from the college experience. Basically, schools have become the sponsors of minor league, professional sports and athletes. Makes me wonder whether the whole endeavor is...

Endowments look huge, but they’re used like retirement accounts. The earnings from the endowment covers operating costs—such as faculty and staff salaries and benefits, scholarships, funding for graduate students. Last year the endowment had a payout of $744M. Of that money, 40% is restricted...

The stadium is being built and I have no doubt it will be spectacular. The real risk is not NIL, but whether Northwestern will remain solvent, and carrying the debt for the stadium doesn’t help. Remember, the $800M from the Ryans is a bequest, so NU won’t be receiving those funds until Mr. Ryan...

Northwestern negotiated for 6 stadium concerts and up to 60 events at Welsh Ryan. And you can bet that they’re already lobbying for more stadium events. Sadly, this story about Forest Hills Stadium sounds ominously similar to the Ryan Field scenario...

No. This is NU attempting to price like a program with a large regional audience. Despite marketing itself as Chicago’s B1G Team, it merely proved that it is the Big Ten’s Chicago Venue for fans of NU’s opponents. Some might find this sad, but it’s the reality.

    Iamaleaving Tennessee

Athletes don’t produce great revenue, major conferences generate revenue via TV contracts. Like all other professional sports, the question becomes how big a piece of the pie do the athletes receive. Currently, they have limited leverage other than threatening to take their skills elsewhere.

For my two seats in the rafters I was recently forced to make a donation for the upcoming season because the seats are proximate to mid court. By next year, all seats will require a required contribution. They’re very close to pricing me out of WR. The stadium I’ve already beer priced out of—sadly.

I think the strategy is to clean house and get rid of every existing STH and it seems to be working. Here’s the plan: 1. Alienate your neighbors and the city of Evanston by bribing your way to rezone the neighborhood surrounding Ryan Field into an entertainment zone. 2. Have no plan in place...

If you are Martinelli, do you stick around for next year or hit the portal?

I'm curious whether NU could be doing more recruiting in Europe. Seems like many B1G teams have at least on import who is getting a decent amount of playing time.

Really good X thread on the fan base/temp stadium ticket situation

I agree with most of your post, but NU accepts dozens of Evanston Township students each year, more than any other high school. They’ve actually been pretty progressive in terms of supporting local students.

Really good X thread on the fan base/temp stadium ticket situation

And with those ******* cheap tickets, NU was never able to attract a sizable fan base. As we’re seeing with our 12K lakefill stadium, reduced supply isn’t creating higher demand. With 35K seats at Ryan Field, the demand will further decrease or balance out financially, since attendees will be...

Disappointed there are so many Indiana fans in the crowd.

Get used to it. NU can’t draw large numbers, the fan base is aging, and ticket prices will be going up even more. Went to a non-conference game to experience the lakefront stadium and will probably do the same at the new Ryan Field. With 35,000 seats, you can expect 20,000 opposing fans if the...

    PFF Weekly honors

Quite honestly, I think the lack of sacks is primarily due to Lujan’s scheme. Our quarterbacks are asked to make very quick reads and either find an open receiver and/or avoid a loss by either tucking the ball and running or by passing the ball out of bounds.
