Personal story, if you allow it: In the summer of 1985, my family took a trip to visit friends. Of course, we had to make time for the pilgrimage to State College. We arrived in the morning, walked around the facilities and a young man greeted us as he was leaving his apartment/dorm. He was...

Not hard to see Campbell is bulking up in the trenches like many have wanted for years...

Well said. I really liked James Franklin when he was hired, and I think he did an excellent job bringing Penn State football back to prominence. Too many fans forget that in his first year, Franklin out-coached Meyer but lost mainly because of the O'Neill screw job: a ball rolling on the...

    Signature Win, All Time.

That game was not on national TV, Bob, so I've got to go my memory here (always risky for my old brain). The game should have been played at Beaver Stadium since the 1971 game was at Tennessee. If I remember correctly, the Vols told Joe that they would install lights so that the game could be...

    Signature Win, All Time.

I remember watching that game, the first one televised here in Texas. I had listened to the 66-14 TCU win on the radio. What was a nightmare was the way Tennessee scored: a punt return TD, an interception return TD, a fumble return TD, and a 1-yd run following yet another PSU turnover at the...

    Signature Win, All Time.

Personal bias here, I admit, but my choice for the most important victory for Penn State football is the 1972 Cotton Bowl win over Texas. Why? 1. Needed payback for 1969's "political" national title choice by Dick Nixon. Texas sprouted bumper stickers in burnt orange blaring "Penn State -- #2."...

Listened to Matt Campbell's presser from today

I really like Campbell's confident, yet humble demeanor. He seems totally willing to embrace the Penn State traditions that have always made the program unique. My favorite comment (with apologies if not verbatim): " ... what Penn State football represents: integrity, character, class, grit...

“Inside James Franklin's rapid recruiting overhaul at Virginia Tech”

You certainly may end a sentence with a preposition; however, in your sentence above, the word on is used as an adverb rather than as a preposition. FYI: I am not meaning to correct you; just trying to go along with your humor.

For you who know more: Has PSU FB ever have a QB play for them that transferred in?

I finally had time to do some research of my own. Here are the facts from the official 1965 Penn State Media Guide: 1. Jack White transferred from The University of Florida (I was several thousand miles off with my original brain fart of Cal). 2. White set passing records at the time for Penn...

For you who know more: Has PSU FB ever have a QB play for them that transferred in?

Don't trust my memory 100% on this one, Mr. Potter, but I think Jack White transferred to Penn State in 1965. Lettered in 65-66. Might have been from Cal. ChatGPT will likely give you a more accurate answer than my old brain, however.

Besides PSU '94 FB, what was or is the greatest College FB team?

Really like this post, Dave. So many younger fans forget how truly awesome that 1969 defense was and how good the players were. I'll add a few comments to your excellent ones: 1. Inside LB Denny Onkotz also returned punts, avg nearly 14 yds per return. He also intercepted 13 passes over 3...

Besides PSU '94 FB, what was or is the greatest College FB team?

I would add the 2005 Texas Longhorns to the list. Vince Young during that season was a taller, faster version of Michael Robinson. Young sometimes just "willed" the 'Horns to victory as MRob did for Penn State .

    '25 (in-season) - '26 CFB Portal Thread

I understand your point about "bigger backs"; however, I am reminded that perhaps the 3 best RBs in Penn State in the last 50 years or so have been the following: 1. Ki-Jana Carter - 5-10, 212 2. Saquan Barkley - 5-11. 228 3. Lydell Mitchell - 5-11, 195 [Note: these hts and wts are from the...

Don't mean to sidetrack this thread, but I'm a bit excited about our getting this recruit: he's the very first Penn State football player from San Antonio ... at least in my lifetime.

Official ‘25-‘26 CFP Quarterfinal Games Thread

Very well done, Mufasa 94. I'd like to add that in 1969, Missouri slaughtered the michigan team that whipped the mighty Buckeyes. Mizzou blasted the wolverines 40-17. Yet when that Missouri offense played the Penn State defense in the Orange Bowl, all it could manage was one wimpy FG. Also...

    Anyone else happy for Indiana?

I understand your point that 7 of 8 "bye teams" lost their opening game, but what I don't understand is how the 3- or 4-week layoff is worse than it was in past years. For example, PSU finished its season around Thanksgiving with the Pitt game. Then about a month later with remarkable...
