    Drew Stevens

One thing that works against kickers and punters is their contract. Unless you are the premier dude at your position, pro teams often try to find a more team friendly contract. It seems they want to find a young guy on their first contract rather than pay the veteran on their second or third...

    Ben Kueter returning in 2026

He was not close to contributing on the football field when healthy. The choice was likely easier for him than for those on the outside that continue to think he was the missing link. Great kid. Great athlete. His body told him the two sport thing wasn't going to happen.

    Wetjen

The penalty on the return I saw was most likely due to the return being set for the right, but Wetjen appeared to bounce it to the left. Sometimes holds aren't entirely the fault of the player committing the hold. It happens all the time in the run game. The play is designed to be an off-tackle...

    Ben Keuter

Love that he tried the 2-sport thing. Based on what I saw at practice when he was on the team, he was a ways from contributing. Several years and injuries later, it would be a long shot at best to see the field.

Still one of the Greatest Hawkeye Football Videos of all-time

Have watched that video countless times but not for a long time! The scenes with Norm's son and KF embracing his son choke me up every time. Goose bumps throughout!!!

Michigan State Is Probably a Sleeping Giant

I think it's more about what they love about Seth Wallace than it is anything they don't like about Levar. I don't have any inside info, just a hunch. For the record, I'd be fine with either of them if they don't look elsewhere when the time comes.

Michigan State Is Probably a Sleeping Giant

I tend to agree with you. He's either making a move to better position himself to come back to be the head coach (or earn an opportunity elsewhere), or he sees that Seth Wallace is the in-house choice to succeed KF.

    WR's

VanderZee is an absolute UNIT! I was taken aback by how big he is when I saw him in the spring. Hope he can stay healthy because he has the measurables to be a problem.

Spoken like someone who's never coached special teams.

Michigan State Is Probably a Sleeping Giant

Special teams x's and o's was all Coach Woods which is exactly what I meant. Since this was a discussion of special teams, I assumed you'd pick up on that. Clearly you didn't.

Michigan State Is Probably a Sleeping Giant

Coach Woods was a huge loss to Iowa football. He is widely regarded as one of the best special teams coordinators in college football. He is the reason college and professional staffs regularly visited Iowa City to talk x's and o's. His departure is also being felt by high school coaches in the...

Can Cade Pieper Transition Seamlessly to Center?

My brain tells me players more and more are getting to the NFL as soon as they can so they can get to that second contract before their bodies fail them. However, Gennings Dunker's comment during the draft about being willing to come back to Iowa if he had any more eligibility says it's not out...

Can Cade Pieper Transition Seamlessly to Center?

To add to that, centers typically get help in the run game in zone schemes. Rarely are they asked to work independently. Most times they're either giving or receiving help in combos to the second level.

Can Cade Pieper Transition Seamlessly to Center?

Pieper has been getting reps at C in practice for two years even while playing G. That's not something Jones had the opportunity to do. Jones was not only an inexperienced C. He was also an inexperienced player in general. So he was learning the position on the fly while also wading into the...

Can Cade Pieper Transition Seamlessly to Center?

The logic in making the switch would be that the coaching staff feel as though Pieper at C makes Iowa better football team. I have no idea if that's true or not, but I'd defer to their experience.
