Make the blue blood pitch in the modern era?!
Folks make it seem like it’s so easy. Everyone on here could be an AD at a big program and reel in the best coaches.
Everyone who is so sure that they could do the job what is it that you would do and say?
Seemingly the best pitch you can make is...
Good for him.
He’s built something pretty special and successful seems big dogs have noticed.
I think he’ll do great at ESPN. Will bring different perspectives and personality.
Will always root for a Kentucky boy to do well.
Most anger and frustration comes from the fact that fans think all the historical superlatives that come with UK basketball happen all the time.
It took a hundred years to build all that with lots of average and even below average periods.
During that 100 year period a lot of new kids on the...
Would agree with the general idea of complete team with the right amount of top tier talent as well as very good role playing more traditional 3-4 year college players.
You can look at big macro CBB data, but also zoom in and just do great UK teams.
Cal’s title team, almost 40 and 0 squad...
Said in the other thread he could be Pope’s Rod Strickland.
Someone who can evaluate, recruit, develop that position and has the credibility having done the job at the highest level
Mo was a very good player. Has HC and recruiting experience.
He could be Pope’s Rod Strickland.
This is a move in the right direction as far as staffing and recruiting modern times/players.
Need guards who can shoot and assistants who can evaluate, recruit, develop them. A guy like Mo fits that role.
Well Pitino has titles wins and all that other stuff that I talked about in my above post.
I think greatest anything is a tad bit more nuanced than just strictly wins and titles.
All above mentioned coaches plus a handful more are up in the discussion.
He’d win here but flame out just as hot.
UK/BBN wouldn’t be able to handle the ego, personality, aggression…
Tubby and Cal got a little grace and time. The second Hurley dropped off just a hair it’d get ugly.
Hurley wouldn’t f**k around with people. There’s no shaking hands and kissing babies...
From a titles and wins perspective yes.
Wooden dominated a very specific window with literally the best talent.
K dominated a conference with one school with pretty much the best talent.
Pitino resurrected multiple programs and won at high levels in multiple conferences. Hasn’t always had the...
nah…
As Kentucky fans and keepers of “Blue Bloods” it is our birth right and responsibility to fire coaches who don’t uphold the standards.
Even coaches of other programs.
Shaaaaarrr has to go like Hubert and Pope.
Elites 8 and FFs have to have UK, Duke, and UNC every year or it is a...
I’m sure Will Wade, TJ Otzleberger, Jai Lucas, Nate Oates would all go 40-0 with Duke’s resources, NIL, talent, etc…
FAAAAAAARRRR JOHN SHAAAAARRRRR!
FAAAAAAARRRRR DUKE’s athletic administration for not hiring a bigger superstar coach!
He’s the GOAT.
Can win in any conference with any team in any era of basketball.
Turning around St. John’s at his age in this current college sports climate is absolutely insane.
Rooting for him.
Coming up short in an E 8 and consecutive FFs will get you fired around here.
He better take that Bulls job when Billy D takes the UNC job.
Then Hurley can take the Duke job.
Agree.
One thing Cal got right is size and length.
You can have a smaller guard, even a couple, if you have the perimeter and post talent. Generally speaking though if the shots aren’t falling and you don’t have the reliability/talent down low then a smaller guard cannot overcome that.
Pope...
Duke has always gotten a favorable whistle they know it everyone knows.
They’ve always had a fairly favorable road to a high seed via ACC. Only challenge is usually UNC. Once in they generally get a manageable bracket.
This is just history folks. Not hate.
With all that said, Duke is has...
