True but Rosman could have stayed and given another 1A.

The other option for TJCA is the SMC with 5+ hour round trips to Andrews and Murphy. Kind of a rock and a hard place for them.

Homeschool and Private School Participation in Public School Sports

It's interesting that it starts by saying you have to play at the "base public high school" closest to your address, which I take to mean the traditional school the student is zoned for. But then it says if the "base public high school" doesn't have that sport they can play at the "public high...

    Cherokee Headcoach Resigns

They've won a state title in the last decade, and were consistently good when McCoy was the coach in the late 2000s, so I wouldn't say they haven't been successful. And they finished above .500 with a playoff win last year. But you have to compete with some really strong programs in your...

    2nd draft released

It’s always like that. It’s 2 more this time because Rosman is back and Summit is in. They group the football schools (7 Big Smoky) and non football (6 Little Smoky) together when they do this every time. But when the Little Smoky schools have enough for their own league it’s 2 conferences. And...

    2nd draft released

I’m not that worried about that. They’ve usually listed them together when they’ve done realignment, then split off the non football schools in sports where they field enough for their own league (mainly basketball and volleyball). But keep them together for stuff where not every school fields...

A solution that probably would work but most would hate

I think it makes sense, especially since playoffs mostly go by computer rankings instead preset brackets based on league finish like some states. Would just have to figure out the parameters of who gets grouped together, conference-wise. I know we already have splits, but we don’t have 1A/4A...

    What's in the name

That's interesting, and kind of similar to Rosman, which was a combination of Rosenthal and Osmansky. Two buddies of Joseph Silversteen, who was the richest man around (and the namesake of the stadium).

    What's in the name

Should've left well enough alone. Could you imagine the merchandise sales? Hayesville is named for George Hayes, a state legislator whose campaign promise was to create a new county for people who wanted out of Cherokee County. He got elected and followed through by getting Clay County carved...

    Fake Schools

If the money for it is coming from public dollars, then yes. School choice is great, but it shouldn't be subsidized and tax dollars shouldn't go to schools that aren't run by an elected board.

    Realignment Updates

I read an article on HSOT that they meet tomorrow and will also consider a proposal to classify traditional public schools separately. Don’t think anything will come of it, though.

    What's in the name

Murphy is named for Archibald Murphey, who was a state legislator who was an early proponent of public schools. The fact that the town spelled his name wrong is pretty ironic.

    Final ADM Numbers 11/19 - 1A, 2A, 3A

I don't know how you'd have conferences or regions or whatever you want to call leagues without splitting or just accepting that a few of them are only going to be 3 or 4 teams. For instance, in 1A there are 4 football playing schools in WNC (Rosman, Andrews, Robbinsville, TJCA) and nobody else...

    Corvian?

They won the west in basketball last year. I am sure they will be talented, but not a lot of close games or tough competition on their schedule.

    Future 1a Football

I was wondering if more schools in the 100-200 student range would start playing football now that they wouldn’t have to play schools 3-4 times their size. I guess time will tell, but if not and there’s no combined class the playoffs won’t be much fun.
