The guy that played Will Riker on Star Trek: The Next Generation went to Penn State???

Patrick Fabian, who played Howard Hamlin on Better Call Saul, is also a PSU grad.

“Silver considering all remedies for rampant tanking in NBA”

When the league became more focused on marketing individual superstars than teams and rivalries it became much less interesting. The era of the great rivalry between Bird's Celtics and Magic's Lakers was awesome and produced compelling games. Even the MJ era still had teams and superstars...

Great SI article - How Terry Smith's Role Has Changed, and Even Grown, at Penn State

If Campbell plays his cards right, lets Terry help him the navigate the challenges of a portion of the letterman, alumni, and fanbase that have never gotten over the loss of JoePa, and, of course, wins, he has a chance to gain a level of acceptance that Franklin never managed.

Iowa State cancels gymnastics for the rest of the season.....

Top level gymnastics has been largely found in clubs rather than high schools for quite some time. My knowledge goes back to the early 80s, and Penn State's recruiting has been entirely focused on clubs.

Do you agree or disagree with Penn State's scheduling philosophy?

I would be surprised if PSU knew UM wouldn't be on the schedule when they made the current OOC game deals. Until I see some benefit other than entertainment for the fans, I'm not sure why any P4 school would schedule an OOC heavyweight. The committee and talking heads may talk about SOS, but...

Quinton Martin first offensive TD of the year.

There has to be a balance. No, you don't have to open the playbook entirely, but the players have to get some real game experience running the offense and defense between now and Oregon. It makes little sense to wait until the first real test to use plays and sets and expect the team to...

    Penn State has serious competition.

Completely and totally shocked - I was sure than they would far surpass the estimated 400K and the museum's existence would result in a massive boom in central PA tourism...

    RIP Anne Burrell

I don't know if she suffered from clinical depression, but if she did, her thought process would probably not seem logical to someone not familiar with the disorder. First hand experience - some of my worst battles came after some of my best experiences and successes.

    RIP Hulk Hogan

I went to a live show with my dad as a kid; we weren't fans, but the tickets were cheap, and it was a kick. It was at my HS gym and the card included guys like Sgt Slaughter, Don Muraco, and Bob Backlund (a legit wrestler in his day who coached when he wasn't touring.) It was pretty obvious...

    Free Sirius Radio?

My music tastes are all over the map, so I love Sirus for the wide variety of music options. I also love the availability of live sports. I didn't think it would be worth it after I retired and didn't have a commute anymore, but a few weeks of trying to live with terrestrial radio convinced me...

‘Unprepared and entitled’: College grads unpopular with hiring managers

There are also schools that have a culture of preparing students for life after college. I saw this when my son was taking college visits; some schools spoke extensively of how their programs prepared the students for future careers while others barely mentioned it, if at all. I agree with...

Horrible situation south of Austin... Girls summer camp washed away by flash floods...

Some areas of PA took more than one major flood experience to finally address some of the problems. Despite major flooding in '72 and '75 (IIRC), it wasn't until after the 2011 flood that parts of Luzerne and Columbia really addressed the threat.

Do you have a beard? When did you grow it?

I grew one once for a stage production. It looked okay, but, like yours, my was itchy. The things I could do to reduce the itch took more time than I wanted to invest long term.
