  • My niece played softball for Taft HS over in Lincoln City. She graduated somewhere around 2005 or 2006. Anyway they won the 3A state championship primarily due to their pitcher Ashley Birdsong. That girl had a nasty rise ball and I felt like she could've played for almost anyone in D1 yet she chose to go to Bradley because her grandfather's friend was the coach.

    Wasn't sure if you remembered her or not. Someone made a comment about the rise ball giving Oregon fits and it reminded me of her.

    That was a bit before my time watching softball like I do now….so it’s not a name ringing any bells.
    But I’ll agree a good rise ball pitcher who can change plains and change speeds is a killer! Especially at HS level when batters are much less disciplined and don’t usually have the deep scouting colleges have access to
